Hello Every one

 

I am returning to this forum after many years to see if anyone has a solution to this most vexing problem.

 

Rapid rear windscreen wiper.

 

They are a bit **** aren't they.

 

My partner has a rapid and I have already replaced the rear wiper motor once. Now the replacement has stopped working. On inspection its full of water. Cleaning it out and reassembling it will get it working until water gets into it again. I disconnected the washer hose and blocked it off to see if that was the problem but it's not. I even drilled a hole in the lowest point of the case to give water an escape route, to no avail.

 

Anyone know a way of permanently fixing this  ? That is with out deleting the bloody thing.

 

They are not cheap to replace.

 

Any sane advice would be very welcome.

Drill a 1/16" hole in the lowest part of the relevant trim. OK, that doesn't solve the actual leak, but at least it lets the water back out!

Thanks but I already tried that. 

Well I got it working for the moment. After kenoniel post I thought more holes can't hurt. So two more holes and some WD40 followed by white grease through the holes drained more water and got it working.  This is the perfect definition of bodge job though.  

Rear wash wipe - one of the most pointless parts of any car. Every one I've had ever has been noisy/ juddered/ smeared/ leaked into the tailgate/boot and just been a general annoyance. Glad I've got a rearview parking camera on the current car, so there's no reason to ever use the rear wipe 😉

Seems to be a VAG thing.  The ones on other cars I've owned have never been a problem. My Mondeo had the washer jet separate from the wiper arm. Not so good for longleat though.

I'm going to guess you've never driven an Austin Maestro. I have, and on a wet road after rain I did the entire trip with the rear wiper on, and the front ones off.

Had a contemporary MG Metro. I think that was my first experience of under designed and under engineered rear wipers.
