No Ignition

Featured Replies

Hello, I have problem with my Fabia 1,2. I can’t put ignition on and interior lights does not work. I can just unlock car (Kessy system) and turn on navigation. Battery and fuses are fine. I have tried secondary key.
Any suggestions?

Welcome.

When did the car last run?

How have you checked the battery?

Battery seconded.

I don't know KESSY key so might be wrongly assuming the with the following.

Also don't have a secondary key, alternate the use of both keys.

I'd also resynchronise both keys (see details in Driver's Handbook) after the battery is fully (long, low and slowly) recharged or if not that issue sorted.

Have you tried starting the car by pressing the start button with the key fob. Could be a battery that’s not fully charged.

I have tried with both keys to start by pressing button with the key. I tried to change battery.

Car was parked in garage and not used for a week.

The interior light not coming on is a bit strange, are you sure it's not just that the interior light is turned off?

For no ignition is this that neither key is recognised, if so do you get any error message (see below)?

If the batteries in both keys are fine then it may be interference (strong electromagnetic field) caused by something in the car, or you have brought with you to the car, or in the garage.

If you have decorative items around the key(s) or starter button try removing these just in case they are preventing the key being recognised.

@TadasT Were you successful when trying to charge the battery as in did it charge?

All interior lights are not working ( trunk, glove compartment etc). Sometimes it lights for a second. For me it is strage too, firstable I was thinking about 'start' button fail, since there are no connections between 'start' button and interior lights.

I don't get any error messages. Also there is no faults in multimedia.

Car interior is free from items.

Nothing has been changed in a garage, so there are no interference from the outside.

Battery was charged succesfully. I tried to change battery from other car when this car battery was charging, but it did not work too.

Double check the battery connection are fully tight. 😐

Thanks, AG Falco

There are probably computer connections between ignition switch and lights interior lights.

Car battery (and it's connections as AG Falco has put) are always at the front of my mind, along with the computer programs.

Otherwise if it's not the car or key batteries or interference from anything near to the garage (adjoining garage, neighbours shed with 5G mast) then it might be a system fault not registering.

Connections are good. I tried to check ground with multimetter. Also I measured + therminal connection in fuse box, all of them had stable + 12V.

Do bear in mind cheap modern digital multimeters can be unreliable and not exactly over accurate but if tested against a known test item reading then usually good enough as a guide.

To measure earth generally just have the meter go from positive post clamp to any metal bit of car body or engine.

A fully charged battery that is left to settle long enough or surface charge taken off by say turning the headlights on for a minute should read 12.7v (or 12.8v/12.9v) then going from 12.7v as 100% -

  • 12.7v - 100%
  • 12.5v - 90%
  • 12.4v - 80%
  • 12.3v - 70%
  • 12.2v - 60%
  • 12.1v - 50%
  • 11.9v - 40%
  • 11.8v - 30%
  • 11.6v - 20%
  • 11.3V -10%

(above figures are from Ring battery charger instructions).

Do bear in mind multimeter accuracy and that the computers run on a 5v system but I don't know how low the car battery can go before it affects the 5v computer system but there are other factors that could affect this so it might not be as low as most owners would think, even the car starting and lights seeming bright enough might disguise the problem.
