Dashcam Parking Mode and Battery Drain

Featured Replies

HI all, I have two DDPai dashcams fitted to my Skoda Superb III.  Previously the cig sockets in my last car were wired through the ignition, but these are always on.  The DDPai's have parking mode, which it says they go into after 15 minutes of not moving.

Can anyone tell me how much in danger I am of flattening a the car battery?  I seem to remember someone saying it would take a good week or two of not driving to do this?

Thanks 😀

I would recommend plumbing into a switched ignition not permanent live as you will drain the car battery. The decent dash cams have a capacitive battery in them which wakes up if the car is moved or something happens. How long this battery lasts for is dependant on the device.

Switch to an Ignition switched circuit is best. Recommend using the rear windscreen wiper circuit.

Thanks, I might need to wait until it goes in for some other work as I'm not good with electrics.

Mind you, I think these do a good job of shutting themselves down when the car isn't moving, so maybe they're okay.  I would rather have them hard-wired though...
