Columbus or Amundsen Retro Fit?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2014, mk2, CR105 Fabia, Monte Carlo estate, without maxidot.

I want to fit a second hand Columbus or Amundsen unit with GPS + Bluetooth.

May I ask is this a direct swap? is there something I need to do? Or is it plug and play? I have seen people say about VCDS? Will this be needed?

It's a fairly straightforward swap, I did it on ours last year. We went for Amundsen plus with integrated Bluetooth. Apart from the unit itself you need microphone and GPS antenna.

Thanks Chimaera, would I not need to do any thing regarding VCDS? I have just been reading a few posts and some people have flitted but have sound issues? Is this something I don’t need to worry about?

I fitted an amundsen first which was great and was plug and play, but later updated to a colmumbus unit I got at the right price as it was also DAB.

I have messed with endless settings for the sound and for me I think the Amundsen sounded far better in the Fabia to the point I am thinking of going back.

There's no definitive answer I'm afraid. But generally yes you'll need to use VCDS to make it work,

Chases Rusty, I have just purchased the VCDS now just encase. I don’t have a clue how to work the program. Is it fairly straightforward?

Sorry Rusty auto correct. Cheers :)

I'm hoping you bought a genuine cable & not a rip off? If you bought genuine then there's  a world of assistance on https://forums.ross-tech.com/index

which will point you in the right direction of what's possible and how to do the basics. If you bought a rip off, then you're on your own I suspect.
