The weirdest noise....driving me crazy....

Featured Replies

This started happening a couple of days ago. It's one of the very irritating greeting noises that our lovely Yeti's play to us every time we start the engine....but this one seems to have got "stuck". It continues permanently even after the ignition is switched off....and then eventually stops a few minutes after that. It seems to be coming from behind the centre of the dash...not from the audio system.

Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

Agree that is irritating.

Why have you got your "settings" on Assistants.??

That's super annoying - I've never heard anything like it. With such a prominent audible warning I'd expect to see a visual clue as well, but there doesn't seem to be anything on your dash. Can you check that your bonnet and doors / sunroof are closed, the car's not in gear, etc? Sorry if that's not much help, but I'm stumped by your weird noise ...

Never heard that noise before so clutching at straws here...

Have you looked under the bonnet to see if the noise is coming from the engine compartment and not from behind the dash?  Maybe an aftermarket alarm... or maybe a mislaid mobile that is trying to connect to the car?

That sounds like a possibility. If the siren has a back-up battery and that battery is end-of-life, then turning on the ignition might be powering it up, and giving it enough charge that it can carry on for a short while after turning the ignition off?

Thanks everyone

@Carlodiesel - I disconnected battery for 10 mins and reset everything back to default in the hope it might fix it - hence Settings just on default.

@muppix- yes I checked all those things

@Robjon - good idea. I'll check the exact location of the sound with the bonnet up tomorrow

@MX-5- no alarms

@muddyjim - no trackers

A bit more info that might help solve it  - before this started happening, normal operation was that every time I started the car, I'd get a "Brrr....iiing" sound. I have no idea what it signified. I always found it a bit irritating but I just assumed it was part of the standard "Yeti experience". Does anyone else have that as part of normal behaviour???
The irritating sound I now have is the last quarter-of-a-second of that sound (the "....ing" bit) stuck on a constant loop/ repeat.

I took it to my reliable local independent garage - they put it on diag and had no idea. The main dealer will charge £150 + VAT to put run a diag and no guarantee they find anything.

Thanks in advance!!!

That is definitely NOT a standard Yeri sound!
The previous owner has obviously added something to cause that.

@Llanigraham - thank you!. So..I was driving along today with this ringing going on in my ears and thinking about your comment about "That is definitely NOT a standard Yeti sound"...and then I remembered...   I fitted a dashcam last year and it was tucked behind the rear view mirror.

This fooled me, my mate, my wife, the local independent garage (who spent 15 mins with a diagnostic machine but couldn't find it). Amazing how it sounded like it was coming from behind the dash

Thank you @Llanigrahamand everyone for your help.
