  1. Couldn't put it better myself. Splash out on a decent battery conditioner like C-Tek and you'll save money in the long run - not just on the car.
  2. Changing all interior bulbs to LED was a good move for me, as was the paid-for Smart Link install. Wish more apps had Car Play equivalents though.
  3. You'll need an OBD tool in order to find out which sensor it is, or you can just replace them all - the others will probably fail within months of each other anyway. Highly unlikely that it was damaged from removing the wheel, the sensor is squirrelled away at the back of the hub.
  4. Can confirm. We’ve been across to France a number of times, and on one visit to Germany via Rotterdam we came home with a vintage motorcycle in the boot. I can’t imagine any other car with so much flexibility and still fun to drive.
  5. No such thing as a Last Hurrah. Unless, that is, you buy an MX-5. Hehe.

    Car covers

My sunroof leaks only at the front, so when I'm going to be away for a spell I try and park the car facing uphill. Worth a go if your local geography allows ...
  7. We went down the Gorilla Tape route with an ageing Landcruiser that we run for ‘rough’ work and it didn’t last a year, getting brittle and curling up after 8 or 9 months. Manx weather is on another level though … As for not opening the sunroof, I believe there’s a fuse which you can pull, though that kills the electric sun blind as well.
  8. Probably. But so am I. The problem isn't with the roof per se, it's with the cassette which sits directly beneath the roof, and is there to catch the occasional drips which the roof is expected to let through by design. Two sides of this cassette are made of aluminium, the front and back sections are made from plastic. Everything is glued together with best intentions and a kind of sticky, putty-like pipe cleaner. This eventually dries out and cracks, allowing water onto the headlining and down the A-pillar, through the fuse box, into the foot well. Some people have also had issues with the drain hoses (1 in each corner) but for me it's all about the join between the four major components of the cassette. No idea, but I'd be interested to hear whether or not there's a warranty on that work. £89 is a small price to pay for, say, 3 years peace of mind. Doesn't work. Gorilla tape lacks the necessary UV resistance, helicopter tape (assuming you can find the genuine article) only works if there are no air bubbles - which there will be since the rubber seal that goes around the glass doesn't meet the roof panel perfectly square-on. I think the most effective fix would be to glue the roof in with the same stuff they use for fitting windscreens, but that's a one-way journey and screams "avoid" to and subsequent sale / trade in.
  9. Looks good to me, but make sure yours is the right size for your system. (I thought I had the order info from when I bought mine, but can’t find it right now) Do note that installation is typically over the top of the old digitiser, which you unplug by leave in place, and that the new one will be shiny and reflective, not matte like the old one.
  10. Been there, done that. As @Urrell said, it’s a cheap fix using readily available parts, you just need to pluck up the courage to take bits of the dashboard apart.
  11. Then it’s not DSG. Broadly speaking DSG is a type of automatic gearbox featuring two clutches instead of one, allowing for much faster changes since the second gear can be kind of lined up while you’re still using the current gear. It’s DSG gearboxes which have made ‘flappy paddle’ shifters so popular these days - before DSG they were literally a waste of time.
  12. Hey Ash, I'd wait until you've had a tank or two behind you with the new clutch so you can compare the fuel economy using a more manual method, in addition to the info provided by the trip computer. By all means ping the garage an email and ask if their procedures would have reset something, but personally I'd give it a tank or two and worry about it later.
  13. Then don't buy an 8 year old car with 80k on the clock. Sorry to put it so bluntly, just my opinion ...
  14. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but if I were to go that way I’d use a tube of the same black gunk that windscreen fitters employ to glue the glass in. The mating surfaces aren’t as big on a sunroof as they are on a windscreen however, and you can expect this operation to be a one-way journey, effectively ruling out using the car in part exchange against a new vehicle.
  15. This may not do your anxiety any favours, but I found I had greater chances of water ingress if the car was parked facing slightly downhill. Might be worth your while forcing the issue, if you still have some warranty on your fix?
