Autodoc - New Brakes ordered.

Featured Replies

I ordered a full set of discs and pads for my Octavia VRS. Given the fact I have the more expensive 340mm fitted to my car. I got the whole set of TRW discs and pads for £176 including postage from Autodoc. I opted for the painted bell housing to hopefully stop the unsightly rust showing through the wheels.

The pads came with new caliper bolts and guides for the pads. The pads themselves had shims fitted the full length of the pad and looked really well made.

I looked at other shops but none were as competitive pricing wise. The nearest competitor price was almost £150 more for lesser brakes.

I am glad I took the risk as I have saved myself a lot of money. They took 10 days to arrive as the company is based in Berlin but if you are not in a rush, it is worth the wait. They sell loads of makes of brakes such as Jurid, TRW, Brembo, Pagid and some I haven't heard of.

Now I just need to get some nice weather to fit them.

Good to know. I've always came across their website but never ordered anything from them.

I also use them for filters, pads and rotors, and some other parts from couple of years. If you order through the mobile app, you can get additional discount.

For oils and some other liquids, I use ato24.de. They do have good Black Friday offers.

Not a bad price that!

I have fitted TRW discs many times, the only downside is some of them are not high carbon discs, whereas lesser competitors will offer it. Great discs other than that.

I just ordered a set of Brembo 340mm discs & pads for a friends car, £168 all in but not sure if the pads come with all add-ons.

There are literally hundreds of sites in all the European countries that all lead back to Autodoc, probably truer to say all linked to Autodoc because who is behind them all I'm not sure, the websites and the way you search, how the results are presented etc etc etc are pretty much identical, ato24.de sounds exactly like many of them that I have ordered from.

Like the OP it has usually been brake & disc combos that I have bought but also backplates, caliper seals, suspension bump stops, oils, filters etc etc, the brake discs have always been very good but the pads dissapointing despite the  impressive packaging and Germanic sounding brand names or Delphi they have all like the discs been made in China, all of them I have had to replace with Ferodo Eco Friction to get back initial bite and progressive braking, they were all beginning to score & chew up the discs.

I cant really complain because they effectively cost nothing but next time I will buy discs only and not be tempted by the bundled deals.

Thankfully the ones I ordered are. I only went TRW as they are oe on many VAG platforms but a lot cheaper than stealer prices. Almost got the Jurid pads but thought I would try the TRW pads. My usual go to pad is Pagid.

The front discs on the car have done nearly 80,000 miles so I highly doubt I will need to change them again during my ownership. The front pads and rear disc/pads were fitted by the previous owner about 2 years ago, but the bell housing is rusty so changed them purely for aesthetics.

80k on a set of discs is good going! I will be changing mine soon and going for the painted units, I will probably replace the splash shields too.

I have just had a look at TRW and both the 312mm and 340mm discs do not show as high carbon, how did you find out yours are?

The 340mm units (DF6133S) in the screenshot attached have no mention of it in the specs, but other discs they list it as per the other screenshot.

I fitted the front discs and pads today. The old pads had a lot of pad left on them but the discs were knackered on the inside.

Once on I took it out for a drive expecting the first brake to be a 'will it stop in time'. However from the off there was a nice bite to them and they are getting better the more I use them. There is a nice progressive feel to them rather than the on off of the older ones.

I will have to wait to do the rears as I realised my wind in caliper tool and spline kit is at my parents house......150 miles away!! So will pick them up and get the rears done next weekend.

Curios, do you plan to do any "break-in" like stop from 60 to 0 few times or whatever TRW recommends or you don't find this is necessary? I plan to do mine soon and am collecting information from others' experience :D

Didn't find it necessary in fairness. I was gentle on them and didn't do any harsh braking initially. I just gradually use them with slightly more pressure each time and they are bedding in fine.

I looked on TRW website and there is no official bedding in procedure. I always find that if you are gentle on pads and allow them to bed in gradually. They tend to work better as sometimes doing lots of high speed stops can cook the pad and makes it less efficient.

I always advise gentle use for around 100 - 150 miles, if I have fitted them myself on a customers car I will go out and do a hand full of gentle stops 30-0 or 50-20 mph just to start the process.

I was told by a Brembo rep that is is best not to 'over-heat' new pads because it can damage them, hence avoid heavy stops, towing caravans etc

It will be different if fitting performance/track orientated pads, in which case check with the manufacturer
