Placing order today!

Featured Replies

Hi all, long time member from back in my OG Fabia vRS days but not been active for a long time. As always it's still the best source for Skoda real life feedback.

I'm going into my local dealer today to place an order for an Enyaq 80 sportline with the following options:

Race blue

125kw charging

Climate package plus - for heated windscreen

Convenience package plus - for electric boot

Transport package - still undecided if worth it, any thoughts as will miss the seat release in the boot on my Octavia, use them far more than I thought I would?

Assisted drive package basic - forced for PPP area camera

Parking package plus

Family package basic - wife loves the intergrated blinds she saw on a Kodiaq, shame they don't do the retractable door bump stops on the Enyaq.

I'll be trading in my 3 and a bit year old Octavia vRS which they've offered £20k for which is enough of a reason to trade now as only will have paid £26k ish after all finance if I went to end of term.

So, is there anything people think are must haves that I've missed or options you chose and I've selected that were a waste. I've opted against the heat pump as will rarely go for a 300 mile drive and need all the charge before stopping, not got the most reliable bladder haha.

Thanks in advance 👍🏼

I bit the bullet and all ordered with a 19 week lead time! Bring it on!

Now to start researching home wallboxes.

I've ordered my Enyaq through a leasing company. The chap I was talking to at the leasing company has had an electric car for 5 years. His advice on wallboxes was "don't go tethered". The leads may change at some point in the future. If you get a tethered box then you'd have to change the box. Untethered, just plug in a new lead.

There can be an issue with the earthing arrangements for a wall-box. Good ones don't require a separate earth spike (a TT earth arrangement) if you have a TN-CS earth to your consumer unit. I'd suggest as some background on this subject.

Thanks for the advice, I was looking at untethered for that reason and I'm happy to just use the cable that comes with the car. We're probably planning on adding a smaller electric car in future to replace the wifes old Tiguan and if that's different like you say, would mean a different box.

I'm currently looking at the PodPoint but was looking at the Ohme Pro for its ability to work with the Octopus agile tariff, however that's tethered. We've got to wait until we get a fixed date to organise the installation anyway so will see what's available then.

Thanks

@AvRS  a 19 week lead time is very good.  So much sooner than others are getting ordering non EV's.

Skoda must really be prioritising the Enyaq over even Mild Hybrid and Plug in models so that it plenty  first registration of  Zero Emission vehicles to help them and VW get the low average C02 emission figure required again in 2022.

The chances of leads changing from type-2 to 'something else' in the future are pretty much zero to not at all. The type-2 socket is part of the CCS DC charging standard that all European manufacturers use and Tesla also use for European Model 3 and Y. Literally millions of CCS and type-2 public charging stations have been installed at huge cost. The manufacturers are not going to throw that investment away. IMHO, go tethered so you always have a cable at home to plug in to and you will never forget to take your type-2 cable in your car should you need it.

Amazing, thanks for the insight 👍🏼

Does anyone have any thoughts on best or just recommended chargers? PodPoint are recommended by VAG and seems Tesco and Lidl (2 shops we frequent) both also use PP for their chargers but not sure if there's any benefit to that.

Yeah was originally told 24 - 30 weeks on our first visit and then once placed they said the 80 is 19 and 60 is 26 weeks. I'm hoping it'll be here late Feb so we can request a March 1st 22 registration as no point taking a 71 if we're so close to the new plate.

You can just download the podpoint app.  You don't need to have bought one of their chargers to use them.

Before choosing a charger, I would do a bit of research.

Where is it going to go on your house?

Tethered or untethered?

What size do you want? The podpoint us quite large, and there are smaller ones around and more stylish ones too.

I'm looking at either the Zappi or the Andersen. The Andersen is over £1k, but it looks the nicest, it has neat cable storage and it will look better where it will have to go on my house, so I am leaning towards that.

There is also some research to look into with the install like the wiring from the meter to the consumer unit may need upgrading to cope and the fuse that is next to the meter may need upgrading too.

I'd be interested to know if that Octopus agile tariff is going to save you money? It seems a bit like the old Economy 7 , the night rates are cheap but the day rates are significantly more expensive. You have to be using much less day electricity and all you electricity at night and I thought that the Octopus tariff only went between 00:30 and 05:30 (not enough for a full charge). Hmm, time to do some research.

Lots of people jumped ship from the Agile tariff in the early part of the year as 'plunge pricing' (negative rates)  became more rare and the top rate of 35p became more prevalent. Many jumped to the Octopus Go or Go Faster tariffs and fixed at a good rate - before the "energy crisis" became a news item. Go tariffs are now very expensive for peak rate, but the headline off peak rate of 5p is still there. Although to be fair, all tariffs are expensive at the moment.

It isn't currently due to the time we're in but I like the idea of that kind of tariff which makes the most of "green" energy etc. I feel if I can get a charger that has the ability to base charging off future pricing then it should be future proofed. My current tariff till December is pretty cheap and even Go isn't worth it for me.

Yeah I've read a lot of people who switched the to Go tariffs but at 24p peak at the moment, it isn't worth looking at. I'll see what happens when mine is due for renewal in December and likely move to the cap and then leave any fixing till I get the car around March.
