Mk3 Estate mc. Removing handbrake trim

Evening. 

The wife chucked 3/4 cup of a certain special chicken fast food pepsi in the middle of the car this evening. 

Most landed in the rear rubber trim compartment or adjacent to the handbrake. 

Some however has clearly dripped into the handbrake down the gap near the lever and trim. I can get the car steam cleaned to sort out the mess out but this won't get inside to the leaver. 

How do I remove the central trim to get at it. Do I need any special tools? 

If I can do this bit I'm winning..
