is it hard to change my octavia mk3 from key ignition to start / stop button

Featured Replies

is anyone done it ?

Do you mean going full keyless start or keeping the key to turn the ignition on but with a start button?

First complicated (additional module, lots of recoding), second just needs a switch in parallel with the start position of the ignition switch.

The OP wants a Start/Stop button, not a switch, ie a momentary contact that you push to start or stop the engine. I appreciate that you probably meant a normally open momentary contact push button switch

A button wired as you say would start the engine but not stop it. Probably acceptable to the OP as his keys will be in the ignition anyway.

In case the OP trys, you definitely do not want to use a 2 position switch on the starter circuit.

As you correctly say a momentary push button is required.

Many owners of VW Golf Mk5  & Mk6, Audi A4, etc. without a start/stop have done exactly this using the start button from those models (when I owned a B7 RS4 this was how it was equipped from the factory i.e. key switch for accessory and ignition plus a push button for start).

Do you have info about how difficult those swaps were?

Sounds a bit strange, but I actually want to switch the other way. Call me old fashioned 😛

Just wire the push button between the terminals on the ignition switch that are ignition switched power and starter solenoid energising.

How do you mean "the other way"?

I read it that switching the ‘other way’ is changing from from keyless to using the key to start the car.

I mean I wouldn't mind converting my push button start to a key start
