Strange rear traction noise/reasoning when turn

Featured Replies

Dears,

Two months ago i start experience a strange issue related to a traction noise /reasoning coming from rear rails (like ESC activation control) but not really it when truning left or right in low speed only, 5km-10km/h. This noise not appear when driving same speed in stright way. Its 2.0l 4x4 DSG7 150HP, Counting 66k km till now. Any one has experience this same issue.

I had similar a while back, strangely enough straight after dealer changed Haldex fluid.

Dealer fitted new Haldex pump and new fluid again under warranty and it’s been fine since.

When was the Haldex last serviced? Was the filter cleaned and/or replaced when this was done if it was?

Lack of maintenance could only result in the Haldex not engaging, what the OP is noticing (if I have understood his translation correctly) is the Haldex not disengaging in a timely fashion.

To the OP, my car does this often when starting up and pulling out of a supermarket parking space on full lock or having reversed out pulling forwards on the opposite lock, it is momentary 4x4 axle wind up and it is a characteristic of the Haldex system being predictive, when you pull away it does not know of you are on a slippery surface or are going to accelerate hard, the algorithm will have the Haldex coupling partially engaged in anticipation, if you pull away slowly and it detects no wheel slippage it will be released resulting in the snatch as the axles unwind.

Thats what I am putting my characteristic down to but I am keeping a close eye on it, if it gets worse then it could be a sticky clutch pack or actuator and will require my attention.

Its hard to tell from your posting how bad yours is, most drivers would not even notice my vehicle doing it but as I have owned several old school 4x4s I recognise the symptom.

What do you mean by haldex ?

The coupling that engages the propshaft to the rear differential giving you drive to the rear axle in addition to the front.

Google will explain its operation, there are many videos.

You mean DSG gearbox oil change ?

No, it is the rear unit which engages the 4 wheel drive.

Never. I dont know that it also serviced. What im expecting is to do it first for DSG.

Well, that’s probably the problem. The Haldex system needs regular services and probably more regularly than the  3 years Skoda state. It also needs the pump filter cleaned as well as oil change.

Mine failed @ 14,500 miles.

@sindibade - As @Routemaster1461 and @Kenny R said whilst I was AFK. The Haldex is a separate unit, part of the RWD section of your 4x4, which requires regular servicing, including a replacement of an internal filter, which is a bit overdue at 66_000km.

This service need be done into dealer or outside ? Is it complicated to do ? How mush average ? Thanks

No, it doesn’t have to been done by dealer, but it does need to be done by someone familiar with what is required. It’s all too easy to mix up Haldex and rear diff drain and fill points, and they have to be aware that the Haldex pump needs removed and the mesh filter cleaned.

I believe that you also need to run the pump using VCDS on completion as per this…

I have absolutely no idea since I know nothing about Moroccan prices for lubricants or labour.

A lack of servicing would not result in the problem the OP is reporting, I still think that it is a characteristic and not a problem.

In any case his Haldex coupling is working despite a possible lack of maintenance.

Hi, how do you solve this problem?

I have the same problem on my Kodiaq 4x4 manual gears. It’s was always 1st 2nd gear a feeling of rear right wheel kind of stuck. This was barely noticed unless you were seated in the back. Car went for regular maintenance where they changed the diferencial oil, and it was really bad. It would do the same but blocking more and clearly noticed when accelerating. They made several tests. Removed the transmission spindle and come to conclusion that complete diferencial has to be replaced. Is there something else (like) sensor that could be faulty? They said oil came out clean, and I cannot understand how the differential would be broken or worn.

Hi, i solve that problem in my kodiaq. I just change the haldex oil and clean the pumpe filter.

Haldex oil is the same as diferential oil? They told me they change the oil and it came out clean. Not sure about pump filter.

No the Haldex service, oil change and filter clean is not the Rear Differential.  The Diff oil might be a good idea to change maybe in 8 years or so.  Haldex @. 30,000 miles / 3 years or sooner.     Diff if launching boats, using off-road etc serviced according to use.   Haldex gets done even if never off-road or wading or even used in the rain.

No it's different.  You have to change haldex oil after every 30k miles. I am sure that your problem is not diferential, as i sad it's probablly haldex.

Thanks I will definitely check that..

Just to add that the noise is really  worse when turning the wheel to either side. Not sure if turning makes more traction to back wheels.
