Lazy starter

What has been a slight irritant with the 1.2tsi is the number of revolutions it takes to fire up when cold. My previous Fiat fired to life virtually instantly and so does my son's Fiesta but the Skoda has to awaken rather like my wife's Corsa B. I guess it in the design as it has not changed since new.

Does it seem to be spinning slower when cold?

Slightly slower as the cold engine has more resistance. It has done it since I drove it out of the showroom 8 years ago. It takes about 2 revolutions before firing

Is the 1.2TSI anymore economic on fuel than the Ford or Fiat so a compensation for that slight delay in starting?

They are not fitted with the biggest of batteries,

Good for the pocket that if it still start on the original and the cars other consumables are not expensive.

Well, there's part of your answer. Are you still using the original battery, and when was the last oil change?

The economy is good and yes the battery is the original. I usually get 8 to 10 years out a car battery but this one flings it over with no trouble. Oil change was 3 months ago. I live in the tropical south-east  so battery has easy life.

If it doesn't have the additional camshaft pulley sensor with the odd pulse pattern on the pulley like the PD engines it will take two revolutions before it knows what cylinder to inject fuel into.

As it has always been like it I would not be concerned.

Hey, did you get this sorted? I have similar issue that the cold starts take long and maybe couple tries but at warm, no problem.

I have just accepted it as the design. Funnily enough my neighbour has bought a second-hand Octavia (07 reg) and he finds the same on his when cold.

Damn. I will still try to fix this if possible. Thanks anyway.
