Airbag error

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had this error come up today.

I noticed that there was a bit of a scratching noise when steering (coming from the airbag cover) the other day but it seemed to go away by itself.

Reversing in a car park today, I steered to full extent and heard a creakin/scraping noise from the steering column again but it was more pronounced. Then, the "airbag error" came onto the dash.

Key cycled a few times and it's still there.

Has some wiring/contacts been damaged?

Any recommendations?

It's in for major (4th) service + MOT on the 18th Nov with the Skoda dealer.

Thanks in advance

Just read elsewhere on here that it may be a clock spring problem. Are they common?

It did sound like something getting mangled inside the wheel when it happened

Yup, sounds like the culprit.

Is this a dealer repair job or something I could do?

Any idea on the cost of the part?

I read elsewhere that the repair was ~£160 but I don't know if this was a dealer figure.

They are a silly price, DIYable but will need coding with VCDS, they often can be repaired with some patience, determination and a soldering iron.

I'm not averse to a soldering iron but don't really fancy a DIY repair on a safety critical component. I'll assess the damage that the dealer wants.

Thanks for help

Same happened to me a few weeks ago exactly. Its the airbag clock spring and it was replaced under dealer warranty but invoice said £160 all in.
