Check Oil Level alert but the stick is on B level

Featured Replies

Hi. I drive a 2010 1.8 TSI Octavia. I bought it recently. 300 miles less on the clock, a month ago, it lit up Check Oil Level so I got the oil changed, just in case. It now lit it up again! So I checked the stick this morning. The car was on a flat surface. I checked it twice and it showed that there is oil around B level each time.

I read the 1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures topic already and booked an appointment with the garage for Monday however also would like to ask your opinion how it sounds that the stick shows there is oil up to B level but the warning still comes up. Thanks!

Get the oil to area A then.

?

What oil did you use and how much went in?

 Was it VW504 00 / 507 00, so 5w 30 FS III?

Were you checking the oil cold on the flat this morning.

That is good to know there is oil, but you need to check it at operating temperature.  Not Warm as some Skoda owners manuals say.

So once the oil has got to 80*oC indicated or more towards 90*oC.       (You can never be sure the correct dip stick is on the car, unusual but not rare.)

PS

Is it the Yellow Oil Can / Low oil warning,  not the Red Oil Can, low oil pressure.

Be aware that if you have a Oil Warning light and open the bonnet then the light goes off for about 60 miles.

You still have low oil though.

If there is a sensor fault or issue then hopefully someone will be along to give advice / help.

It is usually towards the bottom of A that the oil light should go on. As @roottoot says measuring the exact level can be a science in itself. Even a slight movement f the car being  checked off level will show an altered reading.

It doesn't sound good though. 300 miles and you've had oil light on twice.  If you bought from a business seller I'd be thinking about hand back rights as it is a very expensive fix to sort out.

You should review options. Exactly how long and from whom did you purchase?

@roottootthank you for the manual. I checked the oil on a flat surface in the morning. Please correct me If I am wrong, do you suggest me to check it once the engine reaches 80+ degrees temperature? By the way, yeah, It was yellow warning light. The light was gone after I closed the bonnet. It is probably because, as you wrote above, I opened the bonnet. we will see in 60 miles!

@TheClient thank you for your answer. I took the car to a VAG specialist yesterday. He said there is no visible leak anywhere. He mentioned that there is a sensor(meter) looking after the oil level and in my car, it was covered with grease so he cleaned it as the first thing. Also 1 litre oil has been topped up. We will see how it goes. Fingers crossed!

@roottootforgot to mention in my previous message, the oil used is CASTROL EDGE 5W30 LL.

Yes OK. Well and good but have you seen how many 1.8tsi gen 2s have had oil consumption issues without external leaks. If this is time critical so far as your consumer rights I'd exercise them now.
