Volkswagen VR6 forums?

Featured Replies

Having owned two Golf VR6s in the dim and distant past I didn't ever think I would ever have anything to do with them again......but I've just been offered a mint late model one for a pretty reasonable price.

Now as I've had at least half a dozen cars since then, all of which are either 1.8T's or TDIs I need to read up on the old motors again. They were still pretty much current cars when I had mine and I had no trouble at all with either of them (apart from a dodgy spark plug lead on the early one I had).

The only thing that led me away from them was the fact that they felt a bit flat in the mid range and it was very expensive to get any more grunt out of the engine at low revs, hence the move to turbos where an extra 30 - 50lb ft plus can be had for next to nothing!

I want to know if things have moved on tuning wise in the last five or six years since I sold my last one, all I have is a memory of that lovely sound, easily fixed cr4p handling and lack of mid range.

The first forums that spring to mind are:-

I don't think much has changed tuning wise. Most development has been on the 1.8T's as there is a great deal of potential in these engines.
