Skoda Fabia 2012 Bluetooth Upgrade Help

Featured Replies

Hi!

I've just got a 2012 Skoda Fabia SE TSI and I was wondering if anyone can help me understand the easiest way to enable bluetooth on this car for music?

I am aware of a bluetooth-aux adaptor that plugs into the aux port but I was wondering if there is anything I can fit to the back of the factory fitted SWING radio to enable bluetooth?

Appologies if this has been asked before but I am unable to find any decent info out there.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

theres no real option to add bluetooth to the swing unit,

You ideally need to replace / change the headunit and then add the bluetooth to that...........OR replace with a unit with built in bluetooth like a RNS 315

Thank you for the reply. Would it just be a simple straight swap to a RNS315? Ie take the 4 screws out - old unit out - new RNS315 in and you're good to go?

Do I need to worry about programming anything or any special codes?

Thanks again

Well, the RNS 315 Amundsen is the navigation unit as well which has built in bluetooth normally (not all do), these are also available with DAB, that would set you back around £250 and all you would need on top would be a DAB and GPS antenna

But a cheaper option would be an RCD510 (link below) similar to the Swing unit you have, but more features....

To this you have to add the bluetooth module and wiring like below.

So cost gets "similar", all depends on what you want really.

The RNS315 would need coding in the car as would also potentially telling the car its phone prepped.

Heres an RNS315 FULL kit...........as you could buy from the dealer as an accessory, obviously a LOT cheaper now, but good value "imo"

I’m looking to retrofit an Amundsen+, possibly with DAB, into my mk2 VRS.

Does anyone know if the Amundsen+ will allow you to skips songs on the steering wheel/head unit, or do you have to skip on your phone?

Also, does the DAB aerial have to mount to the windscreen?

Would in need coding on VCDS to get my reverse sensors registering on the display?

Cheers

Mine will work through the steering wheel when using spotify, so I can only "assume" it would work with the built in media player on what ever phone you are using as well.

Coding, ideally yes to get it set correctly, however when I first fitted my non DAB RNS 315, everything worked straight away, including park sensor display.

An aftermarket DAB antenna can go anywhere really as long as it has an unobstructed view, I fitted the geuine shark fin roof antenna and just ran the cable down to the headunit.

Nice one, thanks for the help. I’d be running Spotify on my iPhone so hopefully will work too!

The head unit I’m looking at comes with the below aerial which looks like a fin? Unsure if it’s genuine. I’m guessing I’d need to find longer cables to extend them to the HU?

yes you would need longer wires for "each" signal from the Antenna you want to add, so:-

AM (should be there)

FM (should be there)

GSM (if applicable)

GPS (if applicable)

DAB (if applicable)

Remember, NOT all RNS 315's have bluetooth and DAB, some can have either and OR both, you need to check the label to see the MAC address is populated (not just 0's) for bluetooth, and the DAB has a seperate connection on the back upper left.

Cheers 👍

Got the unit now, bluetooth and DAB, plus it came with the aerial linked above. Thinking I may as well fit that and save having the DAB aerial on my windscreen. Finally got it unlocked but need to fit a microphone still.

Will I need GSM?

I’ve found these cables which I think are correct? Is 3M enough?

You don't need GSM, there is actually no connector on the RNS unit for it, it's for when you don't have an RNS unit with built in bluetooth and you have a seperate bluetooth module, "some" of them have a GSM connection, but to be fair in the old days you needed it more, mobile phone coverage is so much more superior today, really not required anyway.

The link you posted is for 2m, which is def not long enough, I personally think you need around 5m., approx 1/2m across roof from aerial, then 1.5m down and along the edge of the roof (above doors) then 1m down A pillar to behind dash, then 1.5m across up behind the dash etc with some to spare behind the radio. It always better to have to much.

You def need this connector for the unit end , cannot remember if its male on the aerial, I think it is, so this would do I think (please check your connection plugs)
