Whilst having cruise control fitted last week it was noted that the steering wheel had several different codes relating to the type you have ie. Standard, Three Spoke, With Multi-Function etc. etc.

Mine had been factory set to the Standard setting even though the vRS clearly has a Three Spoke wheel!. After some deliberation it was changed to the correct setting and although I cannot conclusively say that there is a massive difference, I did notice that the car felt more responsive when driven harder than normal.

Now I'm not suggesting this is conclusive as it could well be the 'placebo' effect, but all the same thought I would share this info with you guy's. I would also be interested to know from those in the 'know' exactly what if anything changes by entering this coding.

Perhaps a difference in steering weighting due to the size of the wheel? :confused:

I could be wrong but I think the steering is electrically assisted. That means that in theory you can adjust the amount of assistance through VAG-COM.

As the 3 spoke wheel is specific to the vRS model then the coding associated with the 3 spoke wheel probably also increases power steering assistance to suit the larger tyres in the vRS too.

Keep an eye on your economy as the additional assistance uses additional power which places additional load on the engine too although you'll probably not notice with the increase/decrease in mpg as a result of using cruise Control.

Oh yes of course it's a good point. Sorry was just describing why i think the change in coding made such a difference.
