Fabia mk1 VRS front suspension knocking noise

Featured Replies

I have a strange knocking noise coming from the front of the car.

I've recently put on new topmounts, new springs and new droplinks. Wheel bearings are fine and the ARB mounts are definitely tight with good bushes.

Can anyone help as I've had this for a while now and cannot work it out????

You seem to have covered the usual suspects. Are the suspension arms and subframe mounts also good? Is the exhaust system catching on the chassis or cross links?

Yeah the subframe and wishbone mounts are all good , forgot to say it's also had a new dog-bone engine mount and all other engine mounts have been checked due to the car have an uprated clutch put in so the knock is definitely not from engine movement

Can you tell us when it makes the noise, does it vary with speed, turning left, turning right?

Come on, give us a chance.

No variation whatsoever just the same knock when you hit a bump or a hole at any speed. Can't really pinpoint a side of the car which was making me think anti roll bar

I may try replacing the ARB bushes as they are the only thing that hasn't been replaced and they are only a few quid each so won't do any harm as although the originals don't have any significant movement they do look a bit crummy and perished so would be worth it anyway

Well worth doing, don't forget to get new brackets and bolts and not just the bushes.

I have a similar issue and have checked everything and am of the opinion that it is my C.V. joints. It does sound like top mount clunk but they've been checked several times and are good.

CV joints have also been replaced since I thought I may aswell do them when I had the gearbox out so it wasn't that on mine

I was thinking C.V. joints too when I read this thread. :)

How about bottom ball joints, track rod ends, steering rack inner tie rod joints?

Can't speak for the OP but for myself, all of those bar the tie rods are new. I do have new ones to go on but again they've been checked and there's no play.
