Superb 280 mpg realistic

Featured Replies

Non mapped standard 280, initially ran it on sainsburys 97 octane and averaged 27.5mpg over about 3500 miles. Switched to 99 octane shell v-power or Tesco momentum and saw it increase to 29.5mpg over similar miles. Has recently dropped into the mid 28’s probably because I’ve been using manual mode a bit more and enjoying the power and gears rather than the constant desire for 6th gear that the standard drive mode seems to do.

And to answer a previous question, 70 mph is 2500rpm in 6th rising to about 3000 at 80 which is the only downside and probably why the later 272 has the 7 speed

Our 280 gets mid 20 mpg in town, between 30 and 40 mpg on a longer run.

I find the gearing perfectly fine in the 6-speed DSG, it's around 2500 rpm at 70mph, which is the same as the 6th gear in my other car (a hot-hatch)

280 L&K estate here with Revo Stage 1 remap. Running on 99 octane it's pushing out circa 360bhp / 488Nm via 6 speed DSG. Around town is 24-26mpg. 36-38mpg on a run. Fuel consumption has not change much at all after the re-map was done. I switched from diesel to petrol because I'm no longer doing starship mileage & I wanted more power & engine refinement. The 280 gives me all of that in an understated luxury package that can handle all weathers with no wheelspin when you need to press on a bit. The lower mpg is more than compensated by the smile factor.

You have great consumptions.

Mine are (all with aircon, non eco):

- Last year not remapped 12l/100km (23.5mpg)

- This year mapped (ecu and dsg) 13l/100km (21.7mpg)

- Total for 30.000km 12.28l/100km (23mpg)

60% is town (busy traffic, short distances, small city)

20% going to/back from work (5miles, cold engine, oil gets to temperature )

20% highway (70-80)

There are launches, 1/4 measurings, 100-200, top speed runs (speedo stops at 260, but should show almost 280 at 267gps. It is able to go more, maybe 275gps, max).

272 consumes less for sure.

@Bingodalton Surely your oil is not getting to an indicated 90*oC or near in a 5 mile trip from a cold start unless it is warm weather.

In warm weather yes, gets to 90 in 7km while I get to work, it is 30+ here at that time.

But it is a trip without traffic lights with speed of 50mph.

I get to/from (downhill/uphill) work during warm weather with 9.0l in average.

Now in winter, it is -1C, -2C, I get home, uphill driving and after 7-8km it is 72C oil.

Downhill in the morning even worse, starts showing oil temperature less than 1km before office.

So really the engine / engine oil is at or getting to an efficient operating temp and then the car is parked.

Correct, not so good. I know.

I change the oil and filters every 6.000 miles, as well as spark plugs (they could go at least 12.000 in Stage 1, but tuners reccomend 6k miles/10k km replacement).

To add. I even use LL 5w30 for these short intervals.

?

Are they selling you the spark plugs?

They are having a giraffe.

Even giving that you are sprinting with the car.

Seems like money wasted on oil changing at 6,000 miles unless you are tracking the car, the oil will be perfectly fine at 8,000-10,000 miles

be it 5w 40 FS or the Long Life.

The engine might even be more efficient with the oil after 6,000 miles.

VW504 00 so 5w 30 FS III or even 0w 30 FS III is the recommended oil for Fixed or Variable servicing anyway,

and VW502 00 is OK for fixed.

I know that.

But, here we have lower fuel quality, shorter distance rides. I did oil change on every car at 6000miles and all that I know do the same.

Esspecially if you are Stage 1 or higher.

By Skoda it is recommended 18.000 miles, personally for stock I would not go more than 12.000 miles.

Yes, these oils would be good for 9.000 miles even Stage 1, I agree.

What is good here, oil change is not expensive. So, oil, oil filter, replacement work is 75eur in total.

I have tried 0w40 Mobile1.

Not sure, I think it is a little bit quieter with 5w30 Castrol Edge FST LL.

What octane is the petrol?

I am byuing spark plugs and replacing sometimes by myself.

Petrol is 100 octanes, if I trust them.

OMV MaxxMotion Super 100Plus

But whenever I go to Europe there is difference in fuel quality and engine performance / work / sound / consumption.

Guys, what is your fuel consumption on 87mph speed (140kmh) on board? Cruise control for example.

Probably about 20mpg at that speed... Not sure what that is in litres / km

Not possible that much.

Mine is at 29. Maybe others are lower.

Not more than 30mpg on flat road for sure.
