I live on the south coast but when I was buying a touch-up pot in Dundee I thought I'd ask about service costs.

I was told

Its a Fabia VRS

If you do 10k miles or less then the first service is an oil change + annual inspection. If you do 20k miles a year, you can defer the annual inspection to the second service and just have a lube service done at 10k miles.

Service prices seem to vary wildly, but I'd be look to pay 70-80 quid for a lube service and 150-200 quid for a lube + inspection service. Things get more expensive at 40k when filters are done and then 60k (or is it 80k on the vRS?) when the cambelt is done! :D

It REALLY depends where you go in the country.

My 10k service cost me about 185-190 quid inc VAT + courtesy car for the day.

I actually went to VW in Kettering for my 40k service as it was more than 100 quid CHEAPER there then at my local(ish) dealership(s) from Skoda.

Considering VW is meant to be the expensive one when comparing VW & Skoda, this was rather interesting.

I went for a VAG dealership this time, for peace of mind if nothing else. There are many tuners out there that use the genuine parts etc and wouldn't void warranty. That said there have been some instances where warranty was provided after it had officially expired due to mileage/age of the vehicle, and when using the dealers (only) the warranty was still 'allowed'.

If you use 3rd parties to the VAG network that may not happen.

Although I know nothing, can I just add that services based on mileage are also based on age if mileage is less.

In other words, a car will be deemed to have done n miles at periodic age points and will need the corresponding service, irrespective of lesser actual mileage.

Does anyone know if it would be signifcantly cheaper to combine a trip (booze-cruise) to France with a service at a French dealership?

Some folks on the Vauxhall Vectra site seem to be doing this.........

My 10k service (from Prestige in Coventry) was
