iV VRS burning oil smell

Featured Replies

Car ran out of battery today so journey home was on mostly ICE. When I got home and opened the boot I noticed an oil burning smell like my old RX8 did. There was  a good plume of steam coming from the exhaust which carried on for a few minutes.
was this just the system cleaning itself?
I did a 200 mile trip last weekend so it’s not like the ICE hadn’t had a good run. .

I would call it condensation not steam.

Have you checked the engine oil level Cold when you got the car, then when home and at operating temp,  which is how you need tom  at operating temp,

so oil at an indicated 90*oC or so,

and regularly even if the ICE does not run much other than on longer trips?

Condensation is probably the correct term 👍

Only had oil changed last month as it had done 10k so Haven’t checked it since then.
I’ll do this tomorrow

Please do.

Next time best check when collecting the car after a service, dip cold before starting the car, and check once home hot, then again when cold in the morning.

?

Did they use VW508 00 so 0w 20 FS IV at the service or VW504 00,  0w 30 FS III or 5w 30 FS III?

Does it say on the invoice?
