RHD Yeti broken interior door handle advice?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have a 2015 1.2L RHD Yeti that is having some issues with the interior right hand side door handle.

It is quite loose and no longer springs back closed. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it. I’ve included a link to a video of it below. Do I need a new handle? Is it hard to find?

BTW I’m located in Sydney Australia.

Yes you need a new handle, mine has been like yours for a very long time, I have not even viewed the video but know exactly what the problem is.

The same handle is used on the Octavia 2 and are easier and cheaper to find second hand, most of them have a plated chrome finish, my Yeti one is plain black plastic which seems to be a lot weaker than the chrome one, I did eventually get a cheap black one from an Octavia on E-bay.

Your posting has reminded me of a job that I can do today!

Actually having now watched the video yours looks more like a sticky mechanism, it does return under sring loading when you push it, mine is all floppy in the closed position.

You may find its just a matter of lubrication.

May have to remove door panel, trace the rod & lub the linkage well.

I replaced my handle this afternoon, I thought that I had exhausted all the round tuits during the confinement (which has been 2 years of no work for me) but that one had been forgotten so thanks to the OP.

On scrutinising the old one after replacement I found that it wasn't actually broken but the hinge pin had fallen out and is probably at the bottom of the door, the absence was not visible with it in situ and the cable connected, I thought the hinge boss on the handle had broken.

This info might be of use to the OP.

Removal of the handle is easy, finding the hinge pin at the bottom of the door would be less so, I would have made a new pin had I realised before buying the second hand handle.

It's a cable and not a linkage, I know that now but did not before this afternoon, its all quite well protected and dead clean up there, you dont need to remove the doorpanel, clip out the tweeter and then one screw to remove the inner handle, the cable disconnects easily.

What diameter pin? maybe a screw and nut might work, I am probably talking thro' my fesse though

It was about 2.5mm but I cant judge sizes like I once could after losing one eye.

Yes something like that would do it although I probably have some exact size bar stick somewhere, it will only get done if the replacement fails.
