Wireless Charging - The Phone box

Featured Replies

Is there anyone else that was convinced (told or saw) that both sides of the optional telephone box had a wireless charger, not just the right hand side?

This has come up a few times on other Enyaq forums. I don't know where people got the idea from though, as no Skoda videos or literature I can find says anything about both sides being chargers. The best I could find is some salespeople and reviewers assumed both sides charge - despite only one having the Qi logo in it.

as I am waiting for confirmation of build date, can anyone confirm whether an iPhone 13 ProMax with a slim case will fit/charge in the wireless pad?

This picture from Skoda Storyboard indicates dual charging, but sadly only charging on one side.

It shows two phones in the storage area, but doesn't actually state in the text that it'll charge two phones, just that phones can be charged. Nice and ambiguous - probably because that's a pre-production marketing slide, and no doubt the functionality hadn't been finalised.

I guess you could add a wireless charging pad and plug it into the usb socket at the bottom of the pocket?

Yep - and some people have done that on cars without the charging pack, and also to add pads that work better with oversize cases.

Pre-production marketing slide aside, if you look at the image it does suggest that both phones are at the very least showing their current battery state...IMG_20220112_151952.jpg.2f7b326afc7223fee7dfef32a3ffe351.jpg

Actually if you look at the image both phones appear to be showing as charging with the battery charging display showing. Clearly a photoshop and as you say pre production marketing but also misleading I would say.

I'm not too bothered but why have the phone box laid out for two phones but only have one as charging (obviously for cost saving) but I think when people are ordering as an extra you'd expect both sides to charge.

I guess early on they hoped to have both sides charging, but for some reason (cost? heat?) they didn't by the time the final parts were confirmed.

However, you really should base your understanding of what is fitted to a car you're buying by a bit more than a single marketing photo. For example, I usually download and skim the manual of any car I'm thinking of buying so I can confirm it does do what I expect it to and make a note of things I want to find out more about. Also spend a bit of time reading owner's forums like this one to see what people don't like, or isn't what they expected. I have rejected several models of car because they do something in a way I don't think I could live with.

Similarly these are things you should be checking when you take a car for a test drive - my wife and I had a list of things to check when we got to see an Enyaq for real (which included measuring the boot with a tape measure- don't want to spend £47000 and find we can't fit the dog crates in the boot for example!) Of course, I appreciate some people are probably more impulsive and buy without doing any research. But that's their choice - the information is freely available, you just have to take the time to read it.

While I agree with your point, when I preordered my car the marketing brochures were all I got at that time.
sadly they will use every kind of preproduction and marketing misleading to catch you.

The iPhone 12 has MagSafe. Magnetic coils in the phone so that it will more easily hit the magnets in the charging coils on the disc and thus charge more correctly.
How does this work with wireless charging in a car? Is the charging magnet positioned so that they meet with car and telephone? Is there any default location for this on all phones?

There is 7.5 W for Qi chargers, while the iPhone 12 can allow up to 15 W.

The Enyaq has the Qi mark, doesn`t it? Dose it still allow 7.5W?

I have seen that several people put things at the bottom of the phone box to get the phone further out of the box. Is this because that the charging coils will collide otherwisw the charging will not start?

Does the phone box actually charge the phone or does it just keep the battery level at same spot if you use carPlay the whole time and make a lot of calls?

From 10-80%, how long does it take to charge with CarPlay in use?

Don't have an iPhone, but a Pixel 6. This works fine, just keep it face-up, will charge through a case quite happily, not had to place it forward.

Yes, it charges my phone not merely keep battery level even if using Android Auto. Never done a full charge, and never timed the charge so can't help on that.

I have no evidence the phone box in any way improves reception, this is the UK so reception is naturally quite hopeless in rural locations.

I’ve tried various spacing with iPhone 12 Pro and when it does charge it seems to get very hot

Sorry to resurrect an old post.  I today have taken delivery of Skoda Enyaq Lounge and very happy with it.  I knew I wasn't getting the phone box.   Is this something that can be easily retrofitted, but as I am just looking for wireless charging, has anyone found a OEM solution or one that plugs into the USB-C socket that fits neatly in the cubby hole?
