Yeti questions

Featured Replies

I currently run an old Honda Jazz, which with the magic rear seats it has been great, but I am thinking of changing and I quite fancy a Yeti. Budget is up to £7000, and I had a few questions!

Firstly, I think I want either the 1.2 or 1.4, is either one better than the other? Does it feel underpower with the 1.2? 1.8 would be lovely, but I want to keep it cheap, then hopefully I can afford to run something fun alongside it in the future. Not interested in a Diesel.

I believe the 1.4 can come as either 2wd or 4wd? I don't need 4wd, but is there a configeration that gives a better drive? I have read that the Yeti chassis is one of the best in the VAG group, and I like a fun car to drive.

I'm interested in the load space, in the Jazz, the rear seats fold flat, and I can fit my bike in, front wheel off, laying flat. Is the yeti boot big enough to do this? I know the rear seats are removable, which appeals, but I don't want to have to take them out every time I want to sling the bike in the back! Doing some research, I see you can get a variable boot floor, would I need this to get a flat load space, and is this able to be retro fitted? With the rear seats down or removed, can you recline the passenger seat flat to enable long loads to fit in?

Regarding the infotainment, I currently have a relatively new Android Auto double DIN head unit that I would like to swap over. Is this easy without losing functionality with other things, eg clocks, mpg readouts etc. I assume you can get kits to keep the steering wheel controls, like the Connects 2 kits.

Sorry for all the questions, hoping to start looking soon and want to know what I'm looking for.

Thanks very much.

Take a look at the engines on wikipedia to see which one you want.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Škoda_Yeti

For best fuel economy out of the petrol engines and no problems with DSG gearboxes, I would go for the 2015 onward 1.2 engine with engine code EA211 rather than the earlier EA111 and 6 speed manual gearbox. 16 valve engine, ie. 4 valves per cylinder. DOHC Double Over Head Camshaft. 111mph top speed, 0-62mph in 10.9secs. CO2 emissions 128g/km. 110PS@5,000rpm, 175Nm@1,500-4,000rpm. Fuel consumption 5.5/51.4/42.8

As maximum engine torque comes in from as low as 1,400rpm, it will drive better than even a 1.8 petrol engine without a turbo. These modern turbo engines give you lots of power low down in the rev range. The 0-62mph in just over 10secs and the top speed of over 110mph is plenty for this type of car. The top speed and acceleration is similar to some lower powered sports cars.

Load space is flat without the variofloor but there is a large lip when loading, variofloor can be retrofitted, I used one from a MK1 Octavia (2 sections only) freely available in scrapyards as most were fitted with them as standard, you need to modify the side supports.

With a variofloor you end up with the loading bay flush with the boot slam panel but if you remove or tip forward the front seats there is a drop.

TBH the Yeti for me has been a big disappointment  in terms of carrying capacity, it makes clever use of what it has but is no match for the cavernous Octavia.

People do carry bikes but I bet without the variofloor, forward folding passenger seats are rare but definitely worth searching for, if  I could fold mine forward it would make up for the loss of length.

Can't advise you regarding petrol engines other than to say if its not an emissions zone thing give a diesel one a try, a 140 or 150hp, you might be surprised.

If you are ever going to be towing the higher powered and 4x4 versions have a much higher towing limit of 1800kg.

I'm not too far from London, so want a car that is ULEZ compliant, so the diesels are out, and in my price range it will more than likely be the earlier 1.2.

Would like a Corrida red car, but not sure how popular they were. There's a nice looking one for sale not too far away, but it's a 1.8, and don't think I want the running costs that go with that!

I'm hoping that coming from a Jazz there should be a bit more space inside, although how practical the space is matters. My wife has a note, which is slightly bigger than the Jazz, but the load space is much less practical. Good to hear the variofloor is retrofitable, I imagine that will improve things.

I just found this pic, is this with the variofloor?
