Weak tailgate struts has anyone upgraded or replaced with originals

Seems to be a weak point. When I purchased mine at 1 year old the only warranty items it had ever had was tailgate struts.  I have to be careful with the tailgate so as not to slam it.

Used to be an Ebay seller flogging helper springs for these struts.

Strong enough to auto open the boot if holding down the remote button.
