Hi i hope you can help as i have a little problem, my tachometer needle simply wont work, i am trying to get my car built for racing this year, but i cannot find an answer to the problem.

I want a tachometer i can mount on top of the instrument cluster, and one that's accurate, i did try one of the obd led plug in ones, but that seems to run a second behind what it should. 

So it was pretty useless for my needs.

Do i have any options?

The tacho feed is from the engine ECU via the CanBus to the speedo pod so you'll need something that can get the RPM signal from the CanBus feed

So is the OBD port tachometer my only option?

I guess you could possibly tee into the signal wire from the camshaft or crankshaft position sensor as that will be a pulsed 5v but quite how you could calibrate that to actual RPM ??
