1st service booked - this’ll be fun. Not.

Featured Replies

21 months and only 11,000 miles in due to our Covid lifestyle the car told me it wanted it’s first service. No problem.

Online system worked well and I chose a day to visit the supplying dealer for a basic oil change service.

Plus Free Brake Check as per their menu.

Plus a couple of Warranty claim discussions added in a free text box.

1. A repeat of the lousy rear disc brakes condition on my previous Kodiaq

and

2. Rusted wiper spindle.

After a reasonably prompt eMail response I phoned dealer to re-arrange the date as I wanted the “special warranty tech” to be in attendance the same day as the service, because I wasn’t going to make 2 trips.

I’m happy to drop the car off first thing and kill a couple hours in Glasgow, but they wouldn’t budge from their position of, “We want the car all day. We ask everyone to bring their car in early”. So they can pick and choose what to do.

How ****in’ hard is it to plan and schedule jobs these days?

He wasn’t pleased when I said he only had to spend half an hour changing the oil and filter anyway.

Then ask the special tech to eyeball the 2 problems.

I could be heading home at 0900h.

Not in Dealer Land it seems. They wonder why we hate them.

So to be clear, you could have the service done as while you wait.

It is the warranty work they want all day for

Slightly misleading thread title as it implies your problem is just with the service, nothing in title about the warranty work you are trying to get done at same time

You get Techs, Master Techs and fitters and trainees / apprentices & Work Shop & Service Managers.

The Master Tech or Tech might support a warranty issue / claim,  but there is a Warranty Manager who might well not be a Tech, Mechanic or Motor Engineer.

There are Area Warranty Managers as well.

It's VERY hard in these times to schedule anything. You obviously haven't tried to run a business during a pandemic.

Why WE hate them...  We or rather folk like yourself hate them because that's all you people come here to write about. I've hardly ever seen anyone posting "Booked my car in for service, service done as requested, totally happy with dealership". People only ever post bad news stories.

They've told you you can have the car serviced whilst you wait ( as my local dealer does - I suspect most work like that ) or you can book the car in and leave it with them. They've told you the additional work you requested on that day isn't possible.  So what's your problem? What in the hells name has this dealer done wrong? Just book the car in on a day when the correct person is available to look at it and have the two jobs done at once.

You don't want to make two journeys?  So we can expect another posting from you telling everyone Henry's are crap because they don't carry a replacement wiper part in stock thus you had to make a return visit to the dealership?

Just to even up the balance ( because people only ever come here to moan about dealers ), I've had dealings with Henry's servce before and I thought they were most helpful - I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Never bought a car from them ( bought an Audi from Lomond who were located there before them ) but I've sold them a car. It's rare for me to ever praise sales folk but felt the guy I dealt with was as trustworthy as anyone else. If their price had been right, I'd have no hesitation buying a car off them either. They're one of the better dealerships I've visited.

In nearly 35 years of driving, I can count the number of dealerships that I haven't found to be "less than completely honest" with me on exactly no hands.

Plenty post on here that they were happy with Dealership services.

They post in the Dealership section and various sections / models of this forum.   But you have to be reading threads & posts to maybe notice that.

Welcome to the Internet, you must be new here 😂. (</sarcasm> tag just in case it is required, you never know!)

Your point is mostly valid... but there are some of us who try to give credit where credit is due as well (see also my thread about picking my car up, where I clearly give the dealer a shout out for the excellent service received).

@kodiaqsportline

Were you a member previously that left the forum last year and who's posts from then show as Guest?

Those were posts that often referred to 'Armchair experts'.

They’re not going to do any warranty work On The Day.

They simply have to eyeball the 2 problem areas then go away and make a decision about how to deal with them.

At their leisure.

A quick look and a few photos will take about 10 minutes.

Then I can go home.

It ain’t rocket science.

I’ve been here before.

After 22 months and a mere 12,000 miles the car enjoyed it's first oil change service yesterday at the supplying dealer.

Dropped the car off early and stressed that I needed it back by lunch time to make an afternoon appointment.

Enjoyed Glasgow city centre for a few hours on a wet morning.

1215h call - your car's ready.

Strolled in and signed 4 or 5 forms to say I'd enjoyed the experience.

Pleasantly surprised by a bill for "only" £120.

Very pleasantly surprised that they'd managed to replaced the badly worn rear discs and pads immediately to save me a return visit.

Hope these are the real deal out and outlast my period of ownership, unlike last car needing 2 replacements.

Very annoyed to hear that they were washing their hands regarding my rusty wiper spindle. "Normal wear and tear". My arse!

An hour ago I received the Courtesy Call to see if I was a happy bunny.

Yes and No said I.

The man suggested I call Skoda if I want to pursue the rusty wiper spindle. Thanks.

Their tick sheet gave an OK tick for everything, omitting to comment on the big lump out of my front bumper where a rock hit it. Must be blind.

@BoxerBoy  Does it happen to show on the invoice what oil was used & the quantity,

or does it just say 'Serviced according to manufacturers specifications'?
