rear washer

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone tell me where the piping for the rear washer runs from the washer bottle in a mk1 skoda fabia estate and if it is all one piece cheers

3 pieces I think, 1st one from reservoir to engine side of firewall just near ABS module (under engine ECU). Pushfit connection there, most likely unfitted.

2nd piece runs from there to somewhere at the rear of the cabin on left (UK nearside); on hatchback it's just under the plastic trim that the left rear seatbelt sits on when unused. Same sort of pushfit connection, strapped in with wiring loom.

3rd piece from there to outlet.

That's all based on hatchback experience, rear end stuff differs a little I think, as outlet is up with high level brake light I seem to remember (comes out of wiper spindle on hatchback).

Strong screenwash required to prevent the expansion associated with freezing from popping these pushfits apart, at this time of year anyhoo.

Also be cautious with the pushfit at the pump/bottom of bottle behind the passenger front arch liner as mine popped off and ruined a bit of the mounting so it is epoxied in place.

What Pete said is bang on.  I've had both connections pop - the one behind the seatbelt trim and the one at the firewall - mk1 estate

Early Skoda advice was to se screenwash to keep the solution below 50% , otherwise pipe pop off could occur. On my car I had rear screen pip pop off as a car check company had replaced the mixture with water ( some 17 years ago). I've always used at least 50% scrteen wash in the 17+ ears I've owned mine and never had a problem. I shold add that along with 50% screnwash ( I use ASDA STUFF) I alays add a dollop of the cheapest & nasties washing up liquid ( to get rid of road muck) . I've found thet in over 50 years motiring that the cheapo washing liquid removes oil/diesel from the screen, withought out foaming as themore expensive washing liwuidsdo.

if u have a station the pump for rear is next to the wiper motor bottom trim of rear door

I don't think that's correct. The Estate/Combi/Station have the same reservoir at the front of the car underneath the wheel arch with one pump that does both front and rear (the impeller spins in reverse for rear).

i could be wrong i seriously thought it was the pump wil recheck :)

This is exactly how mine works on my Ambiente Combi.I know be because I had to change it a couple of years ago.The pump runs in both directions depending which screen is selected, front or rear.

Can't speak for Estate /Combi, but its one tank in the Hatchback. One reservoir passenger side under front wing, with two pipes .One to rear, with common failure point on firewall next to ABS unit, and other over rear seat. Front  washers are fed from pump to front washers.

That's where mine went the first time. It went the second time right at the pump since it had sheared clean off. The magic of epoxy holds it on now.

I cut off the silly OE pipe connectors at the bulkhead and behind the rear seat and joined the pipes with Halfords 5mm vacuum tube. Problem solved.

There was a post ( long time ago) that Skoda would not honour warranty if the system was not 50% screen cleaner. I've also seen warningings on here by learned folks not ot clamp pipes if lower alcohol screen mix was used.

Since my main dealer refitted my firewall rear washer pipe, some 16 years ago, I've always used at least 50% screenwash and had no blow off problems. September to April I use straight mix, always with a good dollop of cheapo (Usually Asda) washing up liquid to get rid of bus deisel/road grease on screen. That's the advice of a 55 years on the road /in/on all conditiond/roads from C to M

I use straight at this time of the year. Never frozen yet. Used it straight on the last family car too with only issue once. During the Summer it's usually just water with a wee drop of screenwash in there.

AP- advice on here & from Skoda was never to go less than 50% screenwash. Otherwise pipes could pop off. Over the years I've found that "Clearalex" added to an alcohol screen wash helped git rid of flies and diesel road throw up. Sadly, Clearalex is not to be found, so I've resorted to as cheap and nasty a washing up liquid as I could find as it does not foam , but does remove road fuel deposits. Occasionally I find that my screen needs "road oil" strip to remove road oil from the screen. I use a neat film of cheapo washing up liquid for this, spread over the windscreen using wipers and washed off with copies quantities of water .

I use methylated spirits and kitchen roll to degrease the windscreen.

hi how do I replace jet nozzle please

  • 1 year later...

Help !! my 51 plate Fabia has decided that If I try to use the rear screenwash it sends a nice frothy mix from under the dashboard dropping down onto the clutch & brake pedals !! whats the chance of the pipe on nearside were it enters the car has split and is squirting it across and over the top of the heater box ?

Updated information for readers:

There is a 3rd pop-off joint in the screenwash piping....on a 2002 5 door the pipe follows the wiring loom (as its all taped up together) inside the dashboard to the offside and leads to fusebox. above the pedals after taking underdash out, you can barely see the wiring loom---thats were the 3rd connector is !! No way am I spending time fixing a ****ty design fault like that, So I used just over 3M of silicon vacuum pipe tubing and simply cut plastic pipe at rear of glovebox---ran it under the nearside sill trims up the rear wheel arch--cut plastic pipe again and joined it up. When I tried using rear wash it goes over the roof ! it has more pressure and I adjusted it so the jet nearly hits underside of the spoiler now.
