Steering Wheel Electrics

Recommended Posts

Hi all, the steering wheel controls  have stopped working in my 2012 Octavia Scout.

More importantly the Airbag is throwing a fault and the horn isn't working.

It's the missus' car and I got the typical, oh that's.been on a while I didn't know what it means! 😳

Any ideas?

I assume there is a fuse for this or a module? If so where do I find them.

I'm guessing the airbag light will have to be reset by VCDS?

Thanks in advance

Not sure why I can't edit this post, but.managed to find a few threads on this issue.

Looks like the steering wheel clock spring

Does any one have a part number and guide for replacing it?

Yea - classic symptoms of a faulty clock spring.

can’t help any further than that.

if you do attempt to replace it yourself, be sure to disconnect your 12V battery before fiddling with any airbag wiring.

Thanks Andy.

It seems the plot thickens.

Order a squib from eBay, it was the wrong part even though eBay said it would fit.

Rang local dealer - £280 🤯 non available in Europe, no wonder they're going for silly prices 2nd hand on eBay.

There's a guy on ebay who will repair them for £100.

They don't look that difficult to repair as long as you can get the parts, there are a few guides on YouTube.

Apparently all 5K0 squibs have the same cable so it should be possible to buy a cheaper version and swap out components.

Going to dismantle mine first to see which bit's failed.

So did you manage to strip it down and rebuild?
