Fabia buyers remorse?

Featured Replies

Hello all

I am new to the forum, I own a Skoda Fabia TSi estate 2010 with the DSG gearbox, I have owned the car for about a month so far, its got full service history 49.000 miles on the clock, it drives lovely! I did pay over the going price for it, on account for the  such nice condition the car is in, and ha ha, its bright red paintwork , before I bought this Skoda , I test drove two Honda jazzes and two Honda civics , they all had around 20000 miles on their clocks, so they weren't what I would call worn out clunkers , because of the low mileage I cover in a year, and a cousin in the second hand van sales business, I have owned a lot of worn out clunkers that I never give more that 1200 hundred quid for, The Hondas I drove were priced at around the £6 £7000 mark ,  all had horrid steering, notchy and heavy, I was told by various people that this is the nature of these cars  , Before I got the Skoda , I had one of the Jazzes for around a month, I got fed up with looking for a car , so I bought one of the Honda jazzes that I test drove, from a car dealership, Nice car real good condition , but I couldn't get used to the  feel of that dodgy steering problem these cars seem to have , So I returned back to the car sales I bought it from, to have a look around, and just came in the day before was this Bright red Skoda Fabia TSi Estate, which the salesman made a point that the car has has a new timing chain fitted with the last full service, a year ago.

But now having been reading various articles and post on these forums, I am starting to think that my Skoda Fabia is a ticking time bomb so to speak, these cars are plagued with potential gearbox repairs costing over a thousands of pounds  to put right , The other problem was the timing chain crashing your engine ,  got to mess around with the  DSG gearbox  oil , people on this forum seem to be obsessed with manufacturer recalls , trashing post about how bad the Skoda company looks after their customers.

So, like I stated in the heading of this post , is my buyers remorse justified , will I put my key in the ignition and Bang! that's the end of that, 49000 miles on the clock, which I think is quite low mileage nowadays , should be good for over double that, but some forum members seem to think makes no difference, these cars don't just gracefully wear out , they just stop working at any time, and you have to bribe them with high cost garage bills and repairs with high value parts and faults

Thanks

lee

Welcome.

That was the past, stuff should have been dealt with by now on a 12 year old car.

*Maybe the wiring passing to the door might play up, or maybe that wiring was dealt with.*

You say it has a Full Service History, is that not detailed as to what was carried out on the car rather than just it was in for a Service at different dates?

?

Do you not have an actual FULL Service History, and Warranty & Service Campaign work history for your car?

.....................................

?

WHY WOULD YOU HAVE TO MESS ABOUT WITH THE GEARBOX OIL?

Is there not a sticker in the Spare Tyre Well with '34F7' on it showing that the Service Campaign was done on the DSG since 2014 and the oil was changed from Synthetic to mineral and a software update?

That is job done and your car is low miles.   IF NOT DONE THEN MAYBE BECAUSE NOT REQUIRED, NOT ALL 2010-2012 DID GET DONE.

Maybe your timing chain tensioner has had the upgrade, is there no record of that?

Maybe the ignition lead has been upgraded, maybe the turbo shim was dealt with.

There was a TPI & Service Campaign on the front wiring loom for some.  That should have been dealt with if it applied to the car and it had Main Dealer Servicing.

If the car is running well at 12 years old that is all that really matters.

  PS.   There were no RECALLS,

there were Service Campaigns which now get called RECALL ACTIONS.  Not even the Heated Seats were a RECALL.

The RECALL is on a MK1 Fabia.

Hello, thanks for the reply

I cant check sticker in the boot at the moment, it's hammering down with rain at the moment here in Bristol,

in the service booklet, inside cover states, that

1 This is a duplicate service history book, and as such the information entered may not be truly representative of the actual vehicle service history

2 individual servicing tasks have (Not) been included, as your Skoda dealer will be servicing your vehicle with the latest factory requirements.

(Not) has been underlined in the service booklet.

If the car drives well then hopefully you can chill and enjoy for a long time.

All the issues that occurred were well documented on here at the time since 2010 and the actions that members took and how Skoda dealt with them,

so the TPI's, Service Campaigns or Workshop Actions.

A Skoda Dealership or Skoda UK CS can tell you what is they have on their system for work done in the Dealership Network during the first 3 year and since as long as the Dealerships put it on the system.

The sticker or others for Service Campaigns should be in the boot, put there if the work done.

The ignition lead can be looked at and see if armoured.

A Service Record or Full Service Record should not just show a car had Oil & Filter changes.

It should show,

When was the brake fluid last changed,

the brakes serviced / rear drums off,

The Air Filter replaced or checked,

The Pollen / cabin filter,

The Fuel Filter,

The Spark Plugs,

And any consumables replaced & Servicing and Maintenance carried out.

DQ200  7 speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG's have no Service Schedules / Recommendations or Guidelines for Servicing.

Ok, right , the'34F7' sticker is in the boot, its dated 2014, and I also have all those service items done on the date/mileage they need to be done by Skoda , last full service at 48thousand miles was done last year with a new timing chain and tensioner, not done by Skoda , private garage, but it's been done ,

So no more worries and buyers remorse for me then, and it's seems I have a really nice car .

I forgot to mention in the last post,

The  exhaust backbox and pipe is looking a bit worst for ware, it's not blowing or noisy, asked a friend who works in a tire and exhaust center, he said they are double skinned and last for ever also you will have a hard job getting a new one ,  but looking at the one on my car the outer skin has gone rusty and a bit ribby ,so I want to fit a new one

has anyone got a idea where best to get one

What sort of year? I've driven a couple of 2008 car and a 2018, and the later car has way better steering, mostly because it doesn't take a change in lock to wake up the PAS.

It's not necessary, the inner skin is stainless and will last the life of the car, all Fabias do this and it's nothing to worry about.

They were jazzes 2012 and 2 civics 2014. the Jazz I had for the month was 2012, here's the car back up for sale https://www.motorwell.co.uk/cars/honda/jazz/i-vtec/600206/

That's good to know, but does look a bit crappy though 😀

If memory serves this is also common on GM SAABs, but I doubt the relevance of such a thing to the discussion at hand. :D

I have estate 2009 - 1.4 MPI, Manual - this was amazing for the first 11 years...Flawless, extreemly happy, and i was about to buy Fabia 4 estate but NOP, there would be no such car.

Anyway - problem started around 170-180K some small/big electrical problems, lots of maintenance and well that's it..

Still very happy with it, but i can see that from now on is more or less downhill - it's close to 14y old and 200K so the time for a new one is knocking on the door.
