Oil Cooler on standard oil pump?

Featured Replies

Hello gentlemen & gentleladies

I need to crawl under the thing to make 100% but I'm pretty darn sure my 1.8t Mk1 Octavia vRS doesn't have an oil cooler from factory.

I'm going to put oil pressure & oil temp gauges on the motor at some point but I'm fairly sure you can repurpose standard hardware for the pickups for those. My question is this; if I were to slap a thermostatically controlled sandwich plate between the filter and the block and dump a oil cooler rad on it, will the standard oil pump be happy with that decision or would it necessitate a higher flowing oil pump?

Thanks!

No idea beyond that you're approaching this modification right.

Oh awesome, thanks for that! By the look of it I assume it's a watercooled heat exchanger like on a motorcycle? Any knowledge on whether these are similar or superior to a rad?

I don't have, no.  Others surely can tell you pros/cons though.
