Pre-FL Head Unit Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I've just bought my first Octy - a Pre-FL vRS TDI.  It has the Stream MP3 head unit as standard and I fancy upgrading to something else to get a little more functionality and a slightly more modern look.

I know this topic has been covered before but I'm struggling to find any definitive information on which of the standard Skoda units (Bolero, Columbus etc) will fit into the fascia trim currently in my car.

Any other advice on such an upgrade would be appreciated too.  I know the other option is one of those Xtrons or similar Android units but they always seem to look cheap and garish despite the extra functionality.

Thank you 😀

Columbus can fit with a simple fascia change. Bolero, well some are the same shape as the Stream and some are Columbus shape, so both will fit or can be made to fit. Bolero will give you touchscreen and 6 cd player over what yuou currently have. Columbus will give you touchscreen, DVD player, built in hard drive for music storage, and sat nav. I've a cheap Columbus in the sales forum, Cumbria isn't too far away if you want it fitting.

Cheers for the advice!  Now to shop around for fascia panels...

I would also like to retrofit Bluetooth at some point, either OEM or a Fiscon kit, any verdict on which is better?  Would both of these work painlessly with either a Bolero or Columbus unit?  The only fuctionality I need is music playback with play/pause/skip function, I don't have Maxidot or MFSW (although intergration with these would be nice if I ever chose to retrofit them).

I'd go OEM Bluetooth personally, but I don't know what particular module would suit your car.
