MFD Details Average MPG

Featured Replies

Since returning from having my car serviced (Superb L&K Combi), the average fuel consumption seems to be stuck on 26mpg and there is an icon on a letter O which a line through it SW/NW which presumably means there is a problem.

I cant find any details on this within the handbook and it appears the problem does not affect the 'Real Time' MPG detail.

Appreciate any guidance please.

btw I appreciate it has been discussed before but, if anyone is interested, my average real time fuel consumption is about 13% lower than recorded on the trip computer,
However for a big car the overall real time average for the car is consistently 40mpg despite the fact I dont go on so many long hauls as I did when first getting the car.

That icon is the symbol for average, perfectly normal for it to be there.

As for figures, it's typical for the MFD to show about 15 % better economy than you're getting from brim-to-brim calculations. That's deliberate on VAG's part for reasons unknown.

If you have documented your brim-to-brim calculations against MFD averages for each tank, and you have access to VCDS or similar, you can correct the MFD.

I've found the on board computer mpg figure to be surprisingly accurate with my 1.4tsi petrol  Superb. The fuel gauge less so - I can only ever seem to get just over 50 litres of petrol in when it's showing empty.

The bottom of the fuel gauge is actually the reserve level rather than empty. There's still around 8-10 l left at that point if you're feeling brave.

Nope, not that brave. It still gives me a reasonable range of just over 500 miles.

Strangely with my previous Superb mkI  pd I once managed to get 70 litres in it -it had a useable range of over 700 miles. Current owner has managed over 750 miles on a tank - he's a much gentler driver than me though.
