Thinking of buying Skoda Superb Elegance 2011 1.8 TSI 4x4 73k miles

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am thinking of buying Skoda Superb Elegance 2011 1.8 TSI 4x4  73k miles.

I have been reading up a little about it on this site and I am concerned about the high oil consumption issue. It comes with 6 month warranty I am not sure if the issue will arise in 6 months OR if it would even be covered by the waranty.

I like everything else about the car but this has got me worried.

Should i go ahead and buy it or look at another make/model?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome.

With an 11 year old car you might fingers crossed hope the issue with the engine happened long ago and was addressed and sorted, otherwise the high oil use is current and maube why the last keeper got rid of it.

?

So is there a service and maintenance history and repair bills for work already done on the car, at least in the last 3 years?

If it is using excessive oil right from collecting the car then surely you would reject it right away.

?

When does the Haldex show as last serviced and has that been done 3 times during the car life or even more times than that?

Thank you @roottoot for replying.

I have spoken to the dealer and they will send me the service history on monday.

I have been reading the forums and you have contributed so much to some of the threads i encountered.

I have only paid a small deposit by credit card so far so if i dont like anything i wont go ahead with the order.

Reading the forums has been an eye opener.

One poster (The Client) said he had his tensioner and timing chain replaced the day after he bought his.

The dealer said they will do 12 months MOT and service (not sure what level of service) before sale.

The car in question is the one from the following dealer.

If theres any other things i can ask/check please let me know before i decide to go ahead with it or change my mind and think about buying another.

Even though I'd regard myself as mechanically savvy, with the history of 1.8tsi engines and haldex that Ive seen over the years on this and other forums I'd give this one a wide berth

One director company, it has only been around a year probably trading even less,

We are a family owned business that deals in used vehicles, sourcing and servicing. Along side our partnered garage, Stanton Car Group, we offer MOTs, diagnostics and repairs.

Reviews of stanton group, I think you might change your mind.....

I note the number plate is covered up, so no chance to check MOT and other vehicle history

If you view my post here, it explains a "workaround" but only if viewing through AutoTrader.

Hope this helps somewhat. :)

From the written judgement above

So, no details were given of the other two alleged partners. Second, I have checked on the Companies House web site and EJG was only incorporated yesterday.

Sounds like Mr Diffy is a slippery character with an unwillingness to divulge information even to a judge. Those 2 partners may not have existed for all we or the judge knows.

One reviewer who bought a car from them

Bought a car from Midland Sports & Prestige (part of the Stanton Car group) car was faulty, refused to repair or return vehicle. Once they get you off the forecourt your on your own. currently still have no MOT on my car 9.5K finance. Fraudsters of the highest order. BE WARNED, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

All reviewers gave the lowest score possible, not one good word. Do leopards change their spots?

Nothing to persuade one to deal with them as fas as I can see. Always have been and always will be really dodgy characters in the motor trade. A shame as all dealers tarred with same brush to some extent.

I do have to laugh when disgruntled customers say such as he stole my money selling a bad car and will not refund me. Consumer law is there to be used, use it.
