Renault Megane e-Tech, Fully Charged Vid review.

I really like the look of this.

I think i could live with this even the steering wheel.

Only issue is my left fingers on touch screens are just not that good.

Same here. If the boot works for the dogs, I could see us downsizing to one. Range is not quite what I'd like (250), but close.

Probably my next car, the 60 kWh version.

Not keen on those angled "fake" scoops at the front in bright colour.

Prices are quite keen in France ....

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/renault-megane-e-tech-gets-aggressive-price-in-france-undercuts-vw-id3-177096.html#:~:text=The new Megane E-Tech,with a 40 kWh battery.

The new Megane E-Tech prices revealed in France show an aggressive stance against its nemesis, the VW ID.3, with a starting price of 35,200 euros ($39,440) for the 130 PS (129 HP) version with a 40 kWh battery. This figure falls to 29,200 euros ($33,000) when considering the eco bonus for electric vehicles sold in France. The price compares rather favorably with VW ID.3’s offering, which starts at 33,300 euros ($37,710) with the bonus. The German car has the benefit of a bigger battery though, at 58 kWh.  Next, we have the EV60 models, with an upgraded 60 kWh battery and a 218 PS (215 HP) electric motor, which start at 34,200 euros ($38,630) with the bonus included. For comparison, an ID.3 with the same battery capacity has a less powerful motor (204 PS/201HP) and a base price of 34,900 euros ($38,400).

A price of £30k would be great for the 60kWh but I suspect they will go for more like £33K and one and then might get a bit of discount after the initial launch where there will be little to no discount.

I gather it is not out until Q4 or Q4 so a bit of wait to even try one.  With sky high diesel and petrol prices should get a good trade in on my Zoe despite the negative safety news recently, at least my Zoe has the Emergency Braking System which seems to have dropped from the standard specs.

If they were do do a 60kW Renault 5 i would be a very happy person.

Some articles say 2024 but if out in 2023 then that would be great.

Hopefully with the closure of the massive Russian Market for Renault-Lada losing them a third of million car sales Renault will spend more effort on UK sales which includes the games changing Dacia Spring in RHD to the UK, we are still waiting for Renault to commit.

Since Dacia-Lada is a business unit they will be devastated on the Russia market loss so hopefully UK and Ireland will look more attractive.

Would love to know if Nissan Renault Alliance perhaps expect us to buy EV Micras and their Nissan platform version of the Megane.  Will have a look as I could live with either of those too.

Oddly I am having less and less desire for any ID 3 or 4 platformed car, with exception of the Seats maybe, including the Skoda,.

Maybe until they produce something a sleek as a Model 3 but still do not like the no knobs Tesla dash.

Let's us hope the car industry can get the materials and parts to make these cars that do not rely on Russian oil to drive.

Looks big.  Lowest priced one sounds OK.

Tested one last Saturday. Middle spec I think.  Underwhelmed.

Goes quite well in Sports mode and the regenerative paddles work well.

Range was only showing 220 miles if one extrapolated the fact car showed 90% charge and only 198 miles range when I started.

Display quite nice.

Probably going for an Arkana, much better value, so much more car, £10k less to buy.

Well ordered a new Renault car, after testing the Megane-e and then the 1.3 TCE Mild 7 speed EDC dual clutch, mild hybrid Arkana and the Arkana won hand down on value, enjoyment to drive, usefulness as a main car.

Nice as the Megane-e was, quite rapid, seven and half to 60 mph, the range is just not good enough when 300 miles has to be the bare minimum really, they need to get that battery up a few kWh and efficiency too I reckon and the price to the public is too high, they need to get it down in the low thirties to the private buyer.

Disappointed that I felt I could not further progress my conversion to electric, I still enjoy driving the Zoe R135 Riviera, range is dipping below 200 miles on a full charge as the temperature drops down in to single figures.

Arkana should average about 50 mpg, maybe manage 60 mpg tasking it very easy, not bad for quite a big car.  Rather than wait I got the absolute base model, the Iconic, not even got the engine mode changing facility ie from normal to ECO, SPORT and configurable but it has got a load of safety features, engine is EUR6d, RDE2 emissions standards.  £25K instead of £36K for the Megane-e for a much more capable car and running costs will not be a lot different as long as I have a company fuel card.  Getting a electric card seemed to be just not happening even though Allstar now do one and it is linked to GridServe, that said Gridserve seem to be having problems and they are still a year or two away from being a proper full network.

See how it goes, hopefully all electric in the next 4 years as average range gets well past 300 miles and we see motorway and A road charging at the same standard as ICE cars.

The important thing is that you've seriously considered EV and weighed up all your options :)

Hopefully MG4 will convince car manufacturers to lower their prices to complete. But it's difficult to achieve with supply chain woes and rising costs of everything.

Every intention of keeping the Zoe long term as it has quite good range and is super cheap to run. It is just that the sub £50k EVs do not compete as practical for those 300 mile round trip visits I do quite often.

If company was doing salary sacrifice for EV  I could afford to get something good enough to a main work car but subsidies and/or salary sacrifice needs to come in plus improved road network for chargers in the west side of England.

@lol-lolMotability have added the e-Tech Mégane EV60 to their list.  It is the lowest advance payment EV with a bigger battery at £1,295.  Then there is a £750 contribution for anyone ordering one when there current car is going back.   Tempting but there were too many things I did not like and I would need to put on All Weather tyres and wind deflectors so I will be giving this a miss.  The low advance must mean Renault are doing a great deal for Motability Finance or they recon the residues will be good in 3 years.

I did like the Megane-E, lots of nice features and a nice size ie more C segment than B segment than the Zoe and good to hear Renault are doing some deals as £38 to 42K is not cheap.

To me, compared to my ZE50 Zoe, the range was not enough of an improvement and despite having well over 200 hp I thought it did not feel that quick.

There is due out a 130 hp version and with just 40 kWh battery, price unknown, but if still Lithium ion rather than Lithium Iron Phosphate then hard to imagine it will be a success.

Like most Europe makers Renault seem to be a year or two behind the curve as to choices from China or even USA.

@lol-lol I thought i best go check them out again.

The model i could get for 'Much cheapness' is not the one i tried sitting in. It is a corker of an offer.  Sitting at the rear.  Gold trim.  Not to my taste.

*Or pop out handles.*

Anyway just to tight a fit. The seat does not go low enough or far enough back and the pedals are no use for me driving with my left foot.

I far preferred the Zoe and the only problem is no seat height adjustment and again i would need adapted pedals which i never have done as i like a car to just fit.

Waiting list not long on these, but it is much more on Capture PHEV's.  They have no heated seats or steering wheel.

Yes the Zoe has it pluses but the lack of seat height adjustment and those seats being just OK rather than good as they usually are in Renaults put one off have the Zoe as one's only longish range/journey car.

Megane-E is a nice place to be and would suit me quite well but with so many changes happening in the EV market one would have to absolutely think the styling and features of the Megane-E is what you want as there is so much happening with:-

  1. Prices of EVs falling like stones
  2.  Battery chemistry changing from Lithium ion to Lithium Iron Phosphate and even Sodium
  3. Cars currently on finance on great rates and most new offers on high higher rates

So Renault, and all the other European manufacturers, need to get their act together to meet the challenge of TESLA and the Chinese offering else their products will not look competitive in terms of spec but then Renault are going to play on the heritage aspect by bring back the Renault 4 and 5, worked for Mini so should work again on some buyers.

On another subject I have been watching some great Youtube vids and researching the amount of electrically generation on the Scottish Islands.  OMG, so much power being generated and the electricity board ned to get them plugged in to the National Grid ASAP.  Big big numbers of power creation nearly 2 GWs from Hebrides, 600 MW from Shetland, 200MW from Orkney and 10% of the population generating their own via their own wind turbines, highest percentage of EV in use anywhere in UK.   Impressive.
