Underboost in low gears

Featured Replies

Afternoon everyone,

im currently puzzled at an issue I’ve got with my mk1 fabia vrs ASZ. It has a front mount intercooler with egr delete and the n75 valve conversion done to it, and I’m finding that there is a significant lack in power in 1st and 2nd gear, and also it sounds like a noisy exhaust leak at low revs (so after changing gear or pulling away).  Once in 3rd and beyond it pulls lovely, which is why I’m so confused. It doesn’t seem to smoke at all either.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated, cheers!

What’s the N75 conversion?!

It’s more a simplification.  My understanding is the original vac box is basically an n75 valve anyway, but once you delete the egr you have no need for 2 of the vac lines.  So you can clean up the engine bay a bit, and some say it controls boost better I think.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the explanation👍

Sounds like utter nonsense to me, controls boost better only in the febrile mind of a non-technical teenaged spotty person.

The simplification of the vacuum circuit is all well and good as long as it's plugged up and blanked off properly and not leaking air anywhere. You need to check it's been done properly.

What was the last thing done to it before it became "slow"? Or has it been that way since you got it?
Basic question: Is the EGR blanked at the exhaust manifold with a nice substantial plate and gaskets or has the EGR pipe been left flapping... 'Cos if it's the latter, they tend to crack and allow the boost elves to escape.

The EGR can be "home" mapped out if suitable equipment and knowledge are available. As with all messing with ECU's, If you get this wrong you may not be able start the car.

There have also been suggestions of issues with the Anti Shudder Valve with this mod so something else to consider.

This is not suggested as a cure without 1st identifying full details of how the EGT delete was carried out, and more importantly if this is the actual issue.
