DSG Oil change on very low mileage 1.4 Kodiaq SE TSI DSG 4x4 2018 7 seater

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. 😉

I'm about to confirm my order for my Kodiaq - a 2018 Kodiaq with 18,000 miles on the clock. My own mileage averages about 5k a year too.

I've done a lot of research, checks but there is something I can't get to the bottom of and I've been in a bit of a dispute with the dealer about regarding the DSG oil change.

The dealers say that the DSG oil categorically does not need doing until 40k miles  (something which I have also read).

But the car is literally 2 months away from it's 4 year service (and according to Skoda's schedule that is when the DSG oil is due for a change).

But I just can't figure out when as according to all the conflicting advice and info I've read and heard it could be anytime from this this May, to 2026!

I have been told that it's really important that the DSG service is right on the button (so to get it done in 2 months) in order to avoid costly repairs and replacements.

But I've also read that DSG oil doesn't 'age' so going by the mileage is fine.

I think I also read somewhere that it depends on whether there is a filter?

I'm frankly going round in circles and really struggling to get a definitive answer anywhere so I wondered if anyone here could enlighten me.

Basically I'm stretching myself financially with this car as I just need a bit more space with 7 seats up (I'm a childminder and have my own children too) but I want to obviously keep on top of the servicing while, at the same time, not pointless doing things that actually doing need doing and (in my dealers words are simply 'recommendations'!!!!).

If I go by the mileage as my dealers insist is the case, with only 18k miles on the clock, and with my low mileage, it will be another 4 years until I reach 40k. So the car will be around 8 years old.

Is this really ok? I think I'd be worried that for the sake of £200odd quid I could be doing damage that could result in costly repairs.

But at the same time I don't want to get it doing it it's really ok to wait for 40k miles..

Can anyone help answer this?

Thank you in advance

You have not spotted the service schedule states based on 10,000 miles per year.

Some items are time based, but DSG oil change is every 40k miles (although seems to be 38k miles in some VW group European specs).  Doesn’t need to be done at 18k miles

Which engine is it, the 1.5 petrol has dry clutch DSG which doesn’t need oil change

Brilliant, thanks so much for clarifying that it is distance based.

The service schedule says 4 years or 40,000 miles and I can't see if now but sure it said 'whichever comes first'.

It's the 2018 1.4 by (I put it in the subject but should have entered into the question too)

So the 1.5 doesn't need the DSG oil change at all? That's interesting to know.

Do you know about the 1.4?

Thank you

No Kodiaq has ever been fitted with a dry clutch. I believe some versions of the Karoq did have the DQ200 dry clutch at some point, but not the Kodiaq.

^^^ As above, it is DQ200 DSG 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG's that have no service intervals, no recommendations for Oil Changes.

(Fitted to FWD (front wheel drive) vehicles with 250 Nm or under and 192ps or under, 1.0,1.2,1.4, 1.5,1.8 TSI or 1.4,1.6 TDI's.)

The DQ200 DSG is not used with AWD's so cars with Haldex.

** so 1.4 or 1.5 TSI with Haldex do not have a DQ200 DSG.**

So is it a 40,000 mile or 80,000 miles Oil Change DSG?

Best get a Service Desk Person  / Receptionist to ask the Master Tech and not another Receptionist.

Ours doesn't have the same gearbox as the OP's (It's a DQ500), but I wrote to Skoda Customer Services when our dealer was trying to persuade us it needed doing at 4 years (same situation as the OP - 2017 car but with very low miles).  Their response is below:

Re: ŠKODA KODIAQ – TMBMJ7NS0J*******

Dear Mr *****

Thank you for your recent contact with ŠKODA Customer Services. I apologise for the delay in my response.

I refer to your questions below which I have highlighted.

a) which gearbox we have and; – The gearbox is a DQ500

(b) whether the DSG oil and filter change recommendation is time or mileage-based?

– DSG oil and filter change is mileage based so it is required at 40,000miles

I hope this information proves to be of use. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for contacting ŠKODA UK.

Kind regards

So that's conformation that this is mileage and not time-based.

@hanfIs it a Skoda Approved Used Car with a 12 month or 24 month Warranty?

Does it say FMDSH (Full Main Dealer Service History) ?

I would ask if that is serviced to the manufacturers recommendations, so as a customer would be told it needs to be to have a Skoda Waaranty,

not just a history of stuff done and stuff not done, like the AC service they tell customer is required.

?

Was the Haldex service last year or are you getting it done this year by them now?

It is @ 30,000 miles or 3 years or even sooner, and properly serviced not just the oil changed.

THIS MIGHT BE MORE IMPORTANT THAT ANY CONCERN ABOUT THE DSG, MORE LIKELY TO FAIL.

Hopefully those at the dealership were able to correctly advice you on that.

.................

What servicing has it had?

Like,

Pollen filter changed at 2 years or last year and maybe getting changed now.

Brake fluid changed at 3 years or maybe being changed or at least tested now.

For the sake of £200, I'd have the dealer perform the DSG oil change prior to collection, simply for my own piece of mind.

If they're not willing to replace it as part of the purchase (which appears to be justified if the interval is indeed distance-only) then hopefully they may at least offer you a small discount to ensure everyone leaves happy?
