7-speed DSG issues

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm looking for help pinpointing the issues in the drivetrain of my 2010 7speed DSG Octavia.

The symptoms are the worst when the car is cold and nearly entirely go away when the oil gets up to temp. This is actually the reason I made the mistake of buying the car a mere 1500 miles ago.

So far there was only one instance when the car went into limp mode and locked my in 2nd and 4th gears only and one time when it wouldn't go into gear at all. Both were on cold mornings and both went away after a restart.

A more common symptom is something I'm struggling to describe. The car intermittently stops pulling for a split second, it's quite violent in low gears and barely noticeable at cruising speeds. It feels as if the gearbox attempts to shift up but fails. It happens in manual mode and in top gear too so can't be that.

I have a session booked with the local DSG magicians but wanted to get some idea of what to expect.

Cheers

Welcome.

What engine has the car got, a TSI or a TDI?   1.2, 1.4, 1.8 TSI or 1.6 TDI.

How many miles has it done?

I take it since you say a 7 speed DSG and a 2010 you have a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG.

There was a Service Campaign in 2014 for those from 2009-2012 to change the oil from Synthetic to Mineral & do a software update.

Check in the spare tyre well and see if there is a sticker with '34F7' on it and a date.

It could need a reset, it could have a MCU (Mechatronic Control Unit) issue, it could need clutch plates.

It might need all or none of these.

??

Who are the DSG magicians in your area?

They should know all there is to know if they are that experienced with DSG's including DQ200's.

They should know what can save you lots of money with repair kits if they are all your DSG needs.

Its a 1.8tsi at just under 140k and had the recall service done.

How could I tell which part of the drivetrain is causing the issues?

It looks like you are going to have to leave that to the professionals.
