swapped dance radio to swing radio in 09 fabia it wont switch off when ignition switched off

Featured Replies

any ideas why the swing radio i have fitted in place of my dance radio wont auto switch off when i turn my ignition off and remove the key

i notice on the swing radio there are 2 Ariel connections one for screen and one for Ariel....would i need to buy an adapter 2 to 1 could this be the issue ?

thanks in advance mark

The aerial adapter would def improve the reception for the radio....nothing to do with powering off.

the powering off issue is the wiring is slightly different between the radios. Its most likely the +12v ignition / permanent lives are different.

Need to know exactly what year the vehicle is to potentially look at the pin outs on the radio and see where the difference is.

1.Pre-lift and post-lift radios have different communication with the car (CAN 1.6 vs CAN 2.0).
Therefore if someone wan't to put facelifted radio/navi in pre-lift car the can adapter has to be added (quite pricey) and even then there are some issues whith communication f.e. with VCDS, not sure what happens when You try the older radio in newer car.

Also from what I remember, You need do "marry" new unit with VCDS, so the car equipment that are also stored in radio (f.e. parking sensors) match.

How do I know if my radio is pre-lift or post-lift? I'm replacing a dance radio on a fabia mk2 from 2009 by a swing radio from a fabia mk2 from 2014. It works with the code but doesn't switch on or off with the ignition key. I need to use the radio's power switch.

What do you mean with "need do "marry" new unit with VCDS"? How can I do that?

Thanks

Lift was in 2010 model year.

Dance is pre-lift radio, Swing is post-lift.

In Your case the radio won't work with the ignition unless You'll add can adapter.

As for VCDS - you need to add/code the radio in the car using VCDS (diagnostic interface used by dealers or private owners) but in the case of adding post lift radio in pre lift car it can't be done directly from what I know, rather has to be programed (in terms of equipment like BT or Parking Sensors) in post lift car and then plugged into the target car.

Many thanks for the quick response. 👍

I suppose the easiest way will be to hardwire the switched +12V to the radio, if that's available on the harness. I'll have a look to it then.

Cheers

Not 100% sure, but I think it's not so easy... because from what I know it has constant +12V and the power on/off signal goes by CAN interface not the switched power.
