So....bit of an update...

Took the car to a main dealer yesterday for diagnosis.

They had the car most of the day...and declared there isn't an issue. No fault codes and no apparent faults on road test.

 

I know the car doesn't creep in drive... should it..... JKM pointed that out...surely Skoda should have picked that up.... or shouldn't it creep in drive...

 

I'm confused......!

Creep comes with a torque converter, the Yeti is two conventional gear sets in the gearbox operated electronically and mechanically so no creep as with a torque converter

I've done some googling since I posted. The universal theory is that a DSG should creep....but plenty don't. 

I understand this creep doesn't  come about in the same way as a conventional auto but it is there by way of convention, be it a very low first gear or otherwise generated i.e. pseudo creep.

Our 2017 1.2 DSG Yeti does very slowly engage the clutch and move gently forward after foot is taken off the brake without touching the accelerator. It continues moving slowly until brake is applied again. That's on the flat, not sure if it's the same on a hill. Mileage is about 43K.

 

Use JKM ourselves and never had reason to complain, which is not something I can say about the main dealer.

Thanks, yes that's what I thought and inline with JKMs assessment, I too have only ever experienced very good service from them, through friends and several family members. I trust them over and above the main dealers, we had to get an official Skoda diagnosis to move forward with Skoda UK. Can't help wondering if they have given it all the all clear for fear of us taking it further. 

Who drove the car at the service when they reported an issue, was it the Master Tech.  Same at the Main Dealer was it the Master Tech.   The suggestion originally of both clutches and MCU needing replaced was a major thing that must of had very bad behaviour of the way the car drove.     It is all very strange.     ?so still no Reset of the DQ200 carried out just checked for fault codes????

I don't know who drove the car at either road test. My dad has never noticed a problem but acknowledges it doesn't creep...after that was pointed out, he doesn't find that an issue. He's a very mechanically sympathetic driver but observant of issues and says it drives fine, save the mild snatchiness at parking speed, which was present from new and common across other dsg boxes I've experienced. It's smooth as silk on the road, he regularly drives it up decent hills and has never noticed any slip. I wonder if JKM just gave it a bit more than he normally does and the increased load revealed some slip....but then you'd think the main dealer test drive...where they were specifically looking to diagnose gearbox issues would highlight slippage if present. Bizarre!

I don't think anything was reset...just scanned for codes and a road test.

Thankfully all is well.  What matters is that the car drives well and smoothly. 

@dc63described well how normally a DQ200 dsg behaves on the flat.

There is also Hill Hold assist / control that acts for a few seconds when the car sits at a bit of an angle.

On a dry clutch DSG DQ200 there should be no creep with a firm brake pedal press as the clutches should be clear. As the brake pedal is lifted the engine rpm should increase slightly from idle and the clutches should move to bite point and you should get creep. If hill hold is activated you will have to wait until it releases.

 

For Wet Clutch models creep more significant but the basic principle is the same.

 

My DQ200 history isn't promising.

 

Fabia 1.2TSi. Replaced clutch pack under warranty due to Judder.

Yeti 1.2TSi. Replaced clutch pack under warranty due to Slip.

Yeti 1.2TSi. Clutches slipping but returned on lease before repair

Octavia 1.6TDi. Clutch Pack, Flywheel, Mechatronic and gear lever replaced under warranty.

 

Our current Fabia 1.0TSi is OK for now.

 

Over the last 15 years I've also owned four wet clutch models. (3x DQ250 and DL501) over 250k miles and not a single issue.
