Mk2 Vrs estate 1z5 rear washer pump still not working/making any noise after replacing with new

Featured Replies

Good morning folks I hope you are all well.

Just like to say this has been the most helpful car forum I have joined btw.

So as above,I have replaced the dual front/rear washer pump last night but as I move the steering washer stalk forwards to activate the rear washer on my vrs estate, nothing happens. No noise.Front works fine and tracing the pipe work in the rear left footwell,no un-connection there.

Im hoping it is a relay issue.(Under the drivers dash?)

Does anybody know the correct relay or how to meter a relay? Also I do have vcds but do not know how to find this rear washer coding within it.Any help would be great please.

Thank you in advance.

I’m Still looking for some help but may I add this too as I Found this relay layout for my vehicle FL Mk2 …. Either B7 or B8 relay? hope that helps someone in futureB46D4B85-7A99-4316-932C-370E3726B3D9.thumb.jpeg.19e414191f1dcaf3c32aa467a08b5424.jpeg

Check the tailgate is being seen as closed as the rear wash/wipe won't work if the car sees it as open.

When you use the remote to lock the car the indicators won't flash if it sees an open door although all closed doors will lock.  If you have auto wipers sensing rain the rear wiper will activate on selecting reverse gear.

Thank you very much MicMac.

The rear wiper which I changed the motor out on a few months ago, does indeed work when I reverse but not the actual water jet at all,no noise, nothing. I swapped the pump out last night as well.

Just taken the lower steering wheel  dash apart to get to the relays abs they are not the cluster of relays I need.

Now I’ll have to take apart the under glove box fascia off to get to the relay cluster I have shown in my above diagram.

Aaarggh!

Would be good if someone could guide me through using vcds to check the rear wiper if possible please.

Thanks again,I will keep you all updated

Well another update. There is no relay board on passenger side under the glove box.

Went back to the relays under the steering wheel and swapped the 2 small 646 relays at the top on my photograph.

Still no different. The front washer works but the rear screen washer does not.

Any help or guidance how to find this with vcds would be great.

Thanks everyone

Looking at the wiring diagrams there are no external relays involved, the supply for the pump is switched by the onboard power supply control unit, if the rear wiper is working ? then the pump should also work as it's connected to the same wires from the supply unit and those supply wires are the same but in a reversed polarity for the pump to run for the front screen

With VCDS if you go into module 9 output tests you might be able to test the function of the pump

That’s a fantastic,straight forward,easy to understand answer.

Thank you everyone for your knowledge.

I will get vcds on her tonight and I will send my results on here either way, hoping it will help someone in future.

Many Thanks chaps for the help thus far,i have just had a spurt of water from the rear washer on the estate for the 1st time since owning the car!!

I went out with the torch and vcds and following nige8021’s guidance I went in this path….

Installed

09- Central Electrics

Output Tests -03

Select a Test

Windscreen Washer Rear

And it worked! Although not a fan shaped blast of washer fluid but the motor sounded strong.

Now going back within vcds I checked fault codes in central electrics and 2 came up that will not stay cleared/erase.

The photos are below

J605 is Rear Lid Control Module

Not sure what the other code is

Any ideas what these are and where and how to replace the Rear Lid Control Module please folks?

Or maybe I have to do an adaption with vcds?? I did, some months ago, replace the rear wiper motor and arm as that only ever seems to work once when I reverse the car.

Maybe I have upset the system and would be great if I don’t have to keep throwing parts at the car too….

Please let me know your thoughts and I will deffo keep updating so as to hopefully help someone in future.

Thanks very much

Exactly what year/engine code ? as I can't find any J605 in the 2010 wiring diagrams ?

00907 - Intervention Load Management

This is not a "fault" but more an "advisory" code. If you leave lights on or doors open or the ignition on for any length of time, the Battery Monitor will request various systems to power things down rather than letting the batter get discharged too much.

Hi Nige

its a ccza engine code - late 2010

Thanks so much

Also understood about the battery management 👍

OK my Treg has a module J605 as it has a power operated tailgate ( via the remote or switches in drivers door and on tailgate)  afik that wasn't an option on the Octy ? have you been trying some "long-coding" with VCDS and cocked something up ?

  • Author

Oh.That’s strange.

As far as I know, there is nothing I’ve done within vcds to get it to this state.

Maybe the previous owner??

At least I know it works niw.So I’m guessing there is no signal from stalk to rear washer.

Would you be able to guide me how to correct this issue with vcds please?

Really appreciate your help and knowledge

In module 9 or 16 in the measuring blocks there might be a block that shows the state of the column switches

That sounds about right, if a byte is ticked to say that the vehicle has a certain option or module installed then the can gateway will be trying to communicate with it and every scan for fault codes on the installation list will bring up an error code of failure to communicate.

No doubt this module if it were fitted would play a part in the decision logic of whether to respond to a command for rear washer operation.

That’s fantastic Thank you guys.

I will get out tonight with vcds, after putting babies to bed.

I think it might be worth my while finding out how to use it more than my basic Autoscan and clear or basic settings and clear faults that I have been using.

Will deffo post results

Thanks again

Hello again chaps

so with what little time in the evenings I’ve had, still cannot find the wiper stalk controls within vagcom/vcds.( Don’t really know what to do with it)

Think I will take the rear window door card off the Mk2 Vrs estate again and see if I can chase the wiring back.

Thank you very much for your help.

Does the rear wiper (not the water jet) work off the stalk ?

Can you post a picture of module 9 long coding
