DSG Rusty plate

Recommended Posts

So, I was changing the oil on my 2010 2.0Tdi VRS DSG the other day and noticed that the plate in the picture was quite rusty.

Is it under any pressure, is it likely to burst open on me??

Can I just de-rust, treat and paint??

Is it a cheap enough part that can be replaced when I service the DSG unit?

I noticed the same thing whilst changing the engine oil on my Scout. It wasn't just surface rust, but quite crusty. I didn't dig too deeply, just covered it in Waxoyl. When I replaced the under engine cover I noticed that there is a ventilation hole right in front of it so I suppose it gets a good dose of road salt etc.

As far as I can see it is the cover of the mechatronics unit so I assume there is no oil inside it, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Did you get a price and do you know if it's possible to change it in situ?
