Navigation Card for Octavia 2016

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just bought an Octavia 2016 (5/25/2015 according to the Skoda website) and it has a Amundsen / Bolero unit (from the skoda website too).

I introduced the VIN number on the website and I get the following message:

"There were no maps for the VIN. We're sorry, but the navigation device on your vehicle does not support online updates from websites. It is necessary to order an SD card with updated map data via Skoda genuine accessories"

Does that mean that I cannot have a navigation system in the car?

I saw some Skoda SD cards online with the maps but I'm not sure about the compatibility or if they would work. The unit does not have a CD player but it has 1 SD card slot. Has anybody bought any of those cards on eBay or Amazon? did they work? Or is there anywhere I could download the map and copy it into an SD card and plug it in the car?

The system information is as follows:

Device part number: 5Q0035840A

Hardware: H25

Software: 0245

Media codec: 2101.0.0.10

Also, when I plug in my phone via USB cable it says USB error. According to the Skoda portal the Huawei P20 does not appear (maximum P10).

Is there a way to update software or firmware of the unit to make it compatible?

Thank you in advance

This thread may help (or not) with the P20 and check my signature for the latest links to suitable maps.

You may need a bigger SD card depending upon which maps you go for and remember that a 'standard' one won't work.

Thank you John.

It seems that the Huawei might be too new for the car's firmware version.

WHen you mention about your "latest links", what do you refer to? (sorry I'm a newbie here.

ANd you mean a standard normal SD won't work? does it have to be a Skoda SD card? are all the ones from eBay or amazon ok for it, or do i need to look for a specific version?

Thanks again.

Do you have any card in the slot at the moment. Do you have a "nav" button on the unit in the dash?

No to both questions

I thought the Amundsen needed to have an SD card inserted to allow it to work!

The links I refer to negate the need to input a VIN to get the correct software.

I don't have any sd card so no navigation system is there. I also don't have the NAV button so that's why I was asking if it was possible to work the navigation system without it.

Where can I find those links that you're mentioning? I'm a bit confused with that. You mean I could download the maps without the red of the VIN? If yes, from where?

Thanks again for your help

I think that part number is a Bolero unit, so it doesn't have Navigation functionality no matter what SD cards you try inserting.

At that age I suspect it also doesn't have Smartlink capability so plugging phones in won't give you AndroidAuto or Apple CarPlay.

Maybe that's why... Would it help if I send you the VIN number to check it out? Or is that something I shouldn't post or send here?

Thanks anyway

Then you don't have sat nav. The SD slot is just for music files

the smartlink option is in the screen, but when I press the button it says that I need to contact the dealer.

I'm waiting for a call back from them, i'll update once I know if it is possible to activate the smartlink option in my car

Thanks

If you get the option showing, as far as I know, that should mean it's capable.

If they tell you it can't be done, there's third party companies/people that probably can do it

I got a call from them saying that they have to install the smartlink option in the car... and it will be around €350!! I guess there has to be a cheaper option as I find it very expensive to "enable" an option that should have come installed (unless there's a license fee involved)

There is license fee involved but €350 seems excessive.

Some places like that link claim to be able to enable remotely. I've not used this company personally so don't take this as a specific recommendation, just an example of what's out there - you'll want to do your own research if you go that route.
