Buying advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm looking to get a kodiak and leave BMW world, but have a few questions.

1) Is the panoramic sunroof more hassle than it's worth?  I've read quite a few posts with comments talking about how they leak.  Is that a true reflection or are the problems just overstated?

2) Was the family pack (door guards and sun blinds) only ever an option i.e. was it ever standard on L&K models?

3) I know the matrix LED headlights are standard on the new facelift model, but did any of the previous models have LED lights?

4) Could be subjective (based on size and shape), but are the seats in the sportline more figure hugging than the L&K?

My preference is a 2020/21 vehicle, but worst case a new one

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards

EB

  1. I have a panoramic roof, and can happily report that after almost 3,000 miles, I've had zero problems and it's awesome. Just remember that people are more likely to post about issues and problems than if nothing goes wrong, so the Internet is inherently biased in that respect.
  2. Door guards were standard on pre-facelift models (not sunblinds, they were always part of the family pack). I don't think the family pack was ever standard.
  3. Yes, the higher level trims (I think SE L and above) had non-matrix LED lights. (just to correct you slightly - the matrix LED are standard on the facelift except for the base SE trim)
  4. Yes, the sports seats in the sportline + vrs are more figure hugging, but they're not stupidly so like some sports seats - they are still comfy and pretty wide. Don't be thinking Recaro or anything like that.

Unless you find a new one in stock, you'll be entering the lottery of when a new factory order turns up... not that it's much different with most manufacturers at the moment.

The issues with the panoramic sunroof are almost always related to blocked sunroof drains, which presumably is more likely to occur on vehicles that spend a lot of time parked near to or under trees.

Perhaps not a big deal, but something I find a little annoying on sunny days, the sunroof blind can not be closed when the roof is open. I could on my previous car and assumed the Kodiaq would be the same. I have to wear a cap sometimes to avoid glare.

i thought the same on my tig but its so you dont forgot its open because the blind is shut i guess
