Still diluting oil!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi all, last time I post about this POS! We are still having rising oil level on our octy vrs cr. Having to change oil literally every couple months due to oil dilution. Car runs perfect and goes realy well, no rough running issues smoke or anything. A few short trips during the week but always gets a good hours blast on the motorway at weekends. Tried all the additives available, seems like it's regenerating constantly! I haven't removed any injectors yet as I feel there's no need due to how it runs. Never ever seen a dpf warning light either! Enough is enough now want a petrol again after nearly 2 years of this . If anyone can help with any advise just one last time before I part with it. All the best chap's.

Get the dpf checked to see how full it is. You can take it off and get it cleaned or some garages can clean it on the car.

Sounds like it's thinking it needs a regen all the time.

Yes it's trying to regen all the time for some reason. I have a scan tool which says its not blocked according to the readings. I just don't think the dpf is getting hot enough to finish the job. I'm going to try JLM dpf cleaner as a last resort, if that don't help il take it off to clean it.

First thing is stop throwing random chemicals in, 99% of them wont fix the issue and youre wasting your money

You need to give more details

-What kind of driving does the car get, in detail

-What scan tool are you using and when you say according to the readings, what readings?

-Taking the dpf off to clean it will not help either as the ash content will not change

-How many oil changes have you done on it then and for what reason did you do them, how do you know its diluted oil?

Give some answers to these and we might be able to pin point a cause

Hi thanks for reply. As said previous, some short journeys during the week that realy can't be helped but always a good run at weekends. I use the ancel VD700 tool, rrafings are 30ml oil ash, 17.70 particle filter carbon mass (spec) 0.00 particle filter carbon mass (act). Is the Ash content to high at 30ml? I noticed the oil level rising a few months after buying the car, eventually killed a turbo! Since then I've been closely monitoring the oil level and can confirm it has risen again several times. Its obviously diesel diluting the oil. Sometimes I removed 2 litres and top up according, oil and filter changed every 3-4 months. I've been doing extended drives on motorway whilst scan tool connected, exhaust temps get to around 450, isn't this hot enough to regen. Tried holding in 5th to keep temps up. After a good hours run at motorway speeds, get home, still at high idle trying to regen. Scan tool shows no regen was completed as distance traveled  since regen still increasing. All the best

Seems like getting the car fixed will be more economic than the amount of oil change and filters you are doing.

Totally agree, any ideas?

Tbf I can swallow 30 quid every few months on oil and filter just want to know why I won't complete a regen. This is clearly what's causing oil dilution. I would remove the dpf but that's illegal is it not? I'd also like to get to the bottom of it before we sell it on. Cheers

450'C is pretty low for a regen. For reference, this is a regen from a 2012 CR140 where all three EGT sensors reported 600+:

I'd also concerned that the soot mass actual (measured?) seems to be 0. Makes me wonder if the car has been mapped or running some messed with software...

30ml of oil ash is also very low for a car on 156k miles (mileage based on your post here https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/502888-20-cr-engine-injector-seals/?do=findComment&comment=5646486).

Well she's no slouch the old girl, not sure if it's been mapped, I guess I'd need to book it in at a tuning firm to confirm this, shouldn't imagined thatll be cheap. I have witnessed a completed regen and afterwards was fine for a while just seems to get into a fiddle a little to often for my liking. I have seen the actual mass increase slightly but soon clears back to 0. What's best way to tell if remap has been done, can vcds see this? Appreciate everyone's input :)
