Where can I buy swing angle sensor 6Q2423291AX

Featured Replies

Hello,

I’ve got a 6y5 2001 Combi 1.4 mpi which needs a replacement swing angle sensor, which I believe is part number 6Q2423291AX.

I have spoken to all local dealers and none of them have stock or can even order the part. Rainworth Skoda are telling me the part supreseeds into 6Q1423291DX which I believe is incorrect as that would be a LHD variant? And they want £200 for that incorrect part.

Can anybody help me locate this part?

I'm afraid your choices appear to be gambling on a secondhand part from scrappie/ebay, or hoping that the only difference between the LHD and RHD versions is the cable length.

I'd not like to pioneer that route myself - certainly not on a £200 new one, but it could be that extending the cable of a LHD one may work?

Beyond that you could replace whole rack with new style and fit the 'non-captive cable' sensor plus connecting loom. Lots of cost and effort.

Looking at images of the 6q2 vs 6q1 parts may give clues about whether they can physically be mounted the same.

I’ve been watch eBay for a while and all of the used ones that come up seem to have the damaged seal which would lead me to believe they aren’t reliable.

I think I’ll struggle to find someone willing to extend the LHD cable even risking that it might not work.

Maybe try to find a secondhand (or new aftermarket?) LHD one going reasonably cheaply on e.g. ebay.de to experiment with?

Definitely look at images first though, it may simply not fit.

I’ve just spoken to a garage who said the LHD conversion won’t work as the sensor will read incorrectly

Sounds believable to be honest.

Are you 100% sure the sensor is what's wrong?

Replaced the pump and still had the issue, grounding, battery and alternator are fine. VCDS is showing the steering me angle and pump voltage pumping all over the place without me even touching the wheel and unplugging the sensor seems to fix the fault but the steering feels very odd.

Grand tour of local scrapyards seems like your only option, sadly; hoping to find a 'not too long ago replaced with new' one of these sensors. Or a new old stock one surfacing.
