I jacked the front offside of my superb up yesterday evening to take the wheel off,when i took the wheel off i noticed the jack had buckled. So i rang the dealer this morning and explained what had happened, they asked me to take the car to the garage so that they to check it out and sure enough it buckled again after they jacked up the front end , (by the way that was the first time i have use the jack) so they got a jack out of another superb and jacked my car up again at the front end and that jack buckled. I was then told Milton Keynes have been notified and they would be working on that as we spoke with it being a safety issue.

He said it would more than likely be a recall job. Ive got the 2.5TDI V6 Elegance model

Heavy front end - I expect they never tested it on such a front heavy car. Glad you've taken it to the right place and pointed it out before someone else did the same thing and came worse off that it simply buckling.

Used mine to put the alloys on..... so all four jacking points and no problem ...is the 1.9 pd 130 a bit lighter?

Do we know what year(s), or whatever, might be affected?

Mine is an 03 plate 2.8 V6 (with steel road fund licence holder). I think I'll put the army on standby an have one of their huge chinook helicopters ready to lift the front end:rofl:

Sorry it' on a 55 plate,the jacking points are sound it is just the jack itself.

The 1.9pd 130 is just a tad lighter than the 2.5L V6 TDI.

Time to buy a trolly jack for home, or for the car an inflatable jack (saw them at halfords) that inflate off the 12v lighter socket.

I have used mine (1.9tdi) to take on/off all 4 alloy wheels with no probs.... i did however note that the jack is made from aluminium and did wonder myself about its load bearing ability, especially as you sometimes have to remove the alloys with force if they have not been off for a while or were not lightly greased on the mating faces prior to putting on. It is the same jack as used on my friends VW Golf. Wonder if they will recall them all, bit dodgy if it buckles whilst changing wheel !!!

I never use the scissor jack. It's bloody dangerous.

Just looked at the (Technical Specifacations) and surprisingly the 2.5 V6 TDI with manual gearbox is 19 Kilos heavier than the 2.8 with the Tiptronic box which is the heaviest of the petrol models, weight dependant on level of equipment. Mine has everything bar the solar sunroof.

The 1.9pd 130 is 105 kilos lighter.

And since pretty much all that weight will be at the front end that means another 50kg at least through the jack on each side.

Having said that I ahve jacked my 2.5 Tiptonic Elegance up at the front (puncture) and the jack appeared OK - or at least as OK as a scissor jack normally looks in that position - a bit wobbly.

Can you keep us informed of the outcomne of this please - I don't want to miss any recall.

That does seem a little dangerous, I really don't like those scissor jacks anyway.

Diesels are normally much heavier than petrol engines. In something like a Mondeo the extra weight wrecks the handling, it goes from a very nicely balanced car with a petrol engine to a hopeless understeerer with a diesel. But now that there are more diesels than petrols you would think they would adjust everything to cope with the additional weight

That's an interesting comment as my mate with a V6 Mondeo was saying how much better the handling in my TDCI was.

Now that sales of diesels are so high, they have probably tuned to suspension to accommodate the extra weight. But handling is really subjective, what one person likes, another will hate.

I used to hire Mondeos every week, in the petrol 4-cylinders they could do a beautifully balanced 4-wheel drift at 70-80 mph. Try that in the diesel and it just understeered and felt dull. Hire cars are just so much fun!

I like my dealers here so much that I've notified them of what you just told us Pete, and they're going to check all the Superb jacks here right away. They only bring the 2.8V6 models here, and since it's only 19kgs lighter than the 2.5 diesel, they should check it out too.
