New purchase advice!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, just bought a new Kamiq 1.0 110bhp 6 speed and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to treat it in relation to the long term reliability of the engine! Should I just follow the service schedule or is there something more l should be doing! My mileage will be about 15,000 km a year. Cheers!

Welcome.

What has your service indicator been set at, is it left as it left the factory on variable or has it been changed to fixed?

If on variable you can just get the oil & filter service and inspection done sooner if you want and reset then.

Skoda refer to the  'Recommendations' or Guidelines.

There is Fixed Oil & Filter Service Regimes or Variable / Flexible Service Regimes and Skoda / VW Group.

15,000 km a year sounds right for doing the Oil & Filter changes annually and not waiting to 2 years or 29,000 km or more?

Be sure to check where the oil is at now with a cold check and then at operating temp check (then you know how it has been handed over to you) and read the owners manual on 'Driving in a new car',  (check the tyres pressures and reset if needed and reset the TPMS.)

It is the tyres / brakes, suspension etc as well as the engine and gearbox that your are Driving in or Running in as most people call it.

Some extra oil might be used in the first 1000,s of km so top up as required and do  not wait for a warning light or message.

VW 508 00 / 509 00 oil so 0w 20 FS IV.

Hi Roottoot, l have just done the first 1000km and been careful with it, l have no intention of being rough ever but l have heard of some bad experiences and want to do the right thing, my last engine was a k9k 1.5 diesel and it covered 170,000 for me with a few issues but overall was good to me, again it's service schedule was at 30km but l always did it at 15km. Its just the oil service is set at 15km on this engine and l was wondering if l should do it sooner but 15km is probably OK. Thanks for the help and l will post to keep others informed for the greater good of the forum.

Cheers!
