Software 1896 coming to Octavia NX as OTA update

Featured Replies

Many have probably been waiting for the day when these larger updates will be available OTA. Looks like that day is finally here, soon, for select cars.

All Octavia NXs on the 18xx software should be getting the 1896 update over-the-air in the near future, according to MQB-Coding & Retrofit on Facebook:

The update is already being rolled out at least on some Golf 8s and Seat Leons:

Thanks - really like the sound of this as saves a trip to the dealer.Would be interested to hear when people start getting this update.

What's an Octavia NX?

NX is the codename for all fourth gen Octavias.

Why not say a Mk4? So much simpler for us non technical bods.

I've had some 'service campaign' updates ota recently. The Sync issue has sort of been resolved and the Lane assist works better than before too. No details on the updates but that's what I've noticed so far. Hopefully more will come through

I’m not sure all Mk4 Octavia are equal.

Not all can support s/w 18xx, as I understand it, my 1st Edition can only support 16xx, and doesn’t do things like remote lock/unlock via the My Škoda app.

Hence I mentioned "Octavia NXs on the 18xx software" 😉 Some Octavias on 16xx sofware do get the 1896 update, but all 16xx that are eligible must go to the dealer for the update.

That would suggest that there's a hardware update to go with it to make it compatible with further and future software.

Agreed, and I bet that any h/w upgrade won’t happen as a matter of course. As with most computer based systems a small h/w revision can have significant impacts on s/w compatibility & capability.

Mine seems to be working pretty well so no worries. (Long may it continue…)

That's what I've been told too, my hardware won't accept anything further than it has already has (1696 I think) and hence it's going back in for them to change the hardware so it can be updated to the latest software.

Good luck. 🙂

It's a hardware update, complete new head unit 🙄 - my dealer has given a minimum 12 week lead time on it.

My car is going back for its new steering wheel next Wednesday , but that was given a 2 week lead time 2 months ago, I call the 12 weeks for a HU as bull****.

Either way won't be my problem, as my new car just entered build, thank god for UK factories.

Remind me what are you getting?

Toyota Corolla 2L in GR Sport spec (the hybrid thing, not the Gazoo Racing hatch with the GR Yaris engine unfortunately) - MY22 gets some QoL updates, and whilst its down on power over the VRS by a bit, i'll get electric for city driving and 50mpg for the rest (had one for a 2 week loan to test my normal routine and averaged 52.8mpg on the kind of driving i'm getting no more than 33 on for the VRS).

Oh and it's everything works, I didn't have to switch anything off everytime I started the car up (looking at you lane assist).

  • 1 year later...

Looks like Cupra/SEAT owners will be getting version 1969 soon. Something to look forward to in the next 12 months for us.
