My new(ish) car

Featured Replies

Got rid of the Fabia VRS just over a month ago, due to the need for more space.

Didn't have that much cash to play with and the white carpets meant a Mk1 Octy VRS was a no-no. So this is what I got. (Not that anyones probably that interested)

Very smart

Now lower it, stick some 20's on and tint the windows

;)

I like it.

True, the GM input is pretty obvious..... a bit like Jags with Ford, but it still has the same Saab like feel that all my Dad's previous Saabs had, and the Turbo is so smooth.

It would have been nice to get a classic 900 or 9k Areo and have a few grand to throw at it :D but alas I haven't got that few grand :(

Always liked Saab's cos they're different, like Skodas. What's the handling like?

so you got a sexy gal and not some GM duff gruff grey crud :)

well perhaps some GM but not enough to un-Saab it yet :)

vetra or saab????

like saying council or private owner.

i'll go Saab ;)

Looks good, I've always quite liked Saabs. Which power output is it?

Steve

Is that a Vectra with a Saab bodykit ;):) I'm only repeating Mr Jeremy Clarkeson.

Having said that I drove a 2.2t estate around the high speed bowl @ Milbrook about 3 yrs ago, I hope GM havent spoiled it .

I used to have an X-Type Jag (before the Fabia)...... so more than used to comments like that :D Water of a ducks back etc.... :P

I had a older shape 9-3, the 205hp one. Got it to 250hp with a BSR PPC & a catback. www.bsrab.se

The PPC is like an AMD one-click, generic map. There arent many custom tuners for Saabs in Texas as I'm sure you can imagine ;)

Have you been on Saabcentral.com forums much? If you do, say hi from Texasjohn to the guys there for me!

It is quite a friendly forum, the atmosphere is much like Briskoda.

There is also TSL: thesaablink.net - this is where more of the 'modding' types and younger Saab crowd hang out, but I never posted there so much.

Cheers for the tips TexasJ. Mainly been on UKSaabs and Saabscene to date, will check out the sites you recommend.

Almost got an older shape 9-3 Areo (205bhp) like yours, but the insurance on the Areo and 5 star saftey rating of the Sports Saloon (I have a family) meant, for once, I follwed my head and not my heart.

Not sure I'll do much with this car to be honest. I plan to keep it for 18-24 months and get well past the magical 30 years old mark for obtaining reasonable insurance and possibly go for a 9-5 Areo with the intention of taking it way past the 300bhp mark :D

- Thats if I can resist the temptation of a Octy Mk2 VRS, once ex-demo's and pre reg's start appearing on the market

I like it a lot mate. Wheels look smart.

Why oh why do they not colour code the door handles though?

LOTS of torque steer on the older shape 93 (even the Viggen), you made the right choice going with the newer car, without a doubt. Even people with non-turbo 150hp 900s and 93s complain of torque steer!!! After I'd chipped the 93 torque steer was shocking, it really was. Although, you learn to drive round it, no WOT in first gear etc.

The 95s dont suffer from it so much (if at all), I'd certainly use a 2.3t 95 as a base car for wild Saab mods over a 93 Viggen, every time ;)

Believe it or not (maybe the kid wasnt expecting me to floor it) but off the lights a Golf MkIV R32 and my Saab were neck and neck 'til about 60mph; we didn't go any faster due to the speed limit. If anything I might have been gaining on him a little.

Happy with that!

 Wow dude!! I love the new SAABS I think they're absolutely gorgeous! They're pretty fast too!

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks really nice.

Really do like that model saab... wished they had left it liek the one you had rather than add those daft lights on the new one.

Really smart car.. and quick!!
